One Legged Squats

I think that is what these are called... they are in Leaner Legs (you put the back foot on the step) I'm not sure if I should be keeping the weight only in the leg in front, or evenly distrubite the weight between both legs.

I hope I am clear! I would love to have anyone help me with this!

I know what you mean!! I wondered the same thing. I, however, try to keep most of my weight on my front foot. The foot on the floor. I read in Oxygen that you'll hit the glutes and hamstring better by doing that and pushing through the heel of that foot. I still feel it in my back leg, but glutes and hams are something that are lacking for me. I could be totally off base here, so I can't wait to read what Cathe says on this!

Hi Emma!

I also believe the weight is supposed to be in your front foot, mainly the heel. As you push up, squeeze real tight for more contraction and resistance. Cathe does comment (if I remember correctly) that you are getting benefit in both legs though. You are getting ham & glute work in the front leg and quad work in the back leg on the stool. I try to concentrate on working the front leg more just because I have more trouble with definition in the back of my legs then my quads. Just my thoughts! BTW, they ARE called One-legged Squats & OH BOY, are they killers. :-tired!!!

Hi Emma! How high your back leg is up on the step and the actual distance you are away from the step, are two factors that are going to effect to what degree you feel this exercise in the back leg as well as the front.

But the majority of the emphasis and focus is definitely on the front leg. And Debbie and Aimee are correct, push up through your heel of that front leg to recruit more glute and hamstring. Good Luck!

Thanks Aimee, Debbie and CATHE! I have been keeping my weight in my heel like you have suggested. I just always wondered if that was correct! Thanks for the quick response! Emma
