One Legged Squats in Supersets

Cathe,

In Supersets, during the third segment, you do a one-legged squat. The move puts one leg forward and the other back, toe down on the step w/a ten pound weight in your hands.

When I perform that exercise, the leg that is back seems to work harder than the leg that is forward. I get a long burn in the quad of the leg that is back and it fatigues before the leg that is forward. I have checked my form and I feel like I am holding good form.

What am I doing wrong (if anything)?

Thank you!
Christine

Me too!

I feel it the same way you do Christine and always wondered if I had it wrong! My leg in back gets very fatigued! I hope Cathe or someone answers!

Thanks!
Susan

Muscle and Fitness Hers just came out with a special "Glutes" issue, and in that, they say that elevating the back foot while doing a lunge (which is basically what these one-legged squats are) increases the focus on the quads of the back leg. If you want to remove that focus, you can do the one-legged squats with the non-working leg beside the other, with just the toe touching the floor, or with the non-working leg in front of you, with the foot raised off the floor.

I did this workout earlier this week. I was having that problem til I moved my front (working) foot forward more so that when I lowered my body, my knee stayed behind that front toe. I did have to lean forward just a hair, though. After that, that front quad 'was on fire'. HTH
