Just want to send out prayers to any other fellow Omahans and those affected by what happened here yesterday.....its so terribley disheartening

I live in Omaha. I go to that mall almost every week. Just so tragic. The Von Maur store had six employees that were killed. I love shopping in that store, they have the best customer service, all the employees are always so nice and helpful. So sad that eight people had to lose their lives because of some teen who wanted to kill himself and "become famous" in the process. I know it's a horrible thing to say, but I'm glad he killed himself and spared all those family members the pain of a trial.

Wow, I live just down the road in Lincoln, NE. I got on the boards tonight to post about the incident, only to find one was already started. I didn't even realize there were fellow Nebraskans on the Cathe boards (unfortunately, a very sad way to find this out).

I was so upset watching the local news tonight and seeing the pictures of the victims, and knowing that many of them had children. It just breaks my heart, and really makes me think about my husband and family.

I am also a frequent shopper at Von Maur (we have one in Lincoln but Omaha's is larger) and was actually going to shop there this weekend. I couldn't help but think, "What if....". I wonder when they will reopen the store, or if they even will. Considering that six employees died, I'm sure those will be very tough decisions to make.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families.

I used to live in Omaha, and I taught a few classes at Westroads Athletic Club! Between Westroads, Oakview Mall and One Pacific Place, that Von Maur's was one of my favorite places to shop. It is so sad to see that young man get the publicity he craved at the expense of those poor people. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. I even feel bad for the woman who took in the troubled boy.

My sister, Donna, was IN the mall Christmas shopping on her lunch hour when this happened. Luckily she was not within range of the shooter and didn't even see him, even though she was in a store around the corner from Von Maur. She said she and other customers in the Sharper Image store had to hide in a storage closet for awhile until police escorted them out. It just reminds me how easy tragedy can strike close to home.

My heart and prayers go out to The victims families and friends and to those who were in the mall at the time of the shooting, It was February last year when a shooter went into the Trolly Square mall and went on a shooting rampage, killed a few and injured a few there also, motive was never found in that case, Though he didn't kill himself, an off duty police officer from a whole differant city was there eating dinner with his wife, That off duty officer killed him, was a shootout between the two from what I heard, I have gone into that mall a few times and just saddened by both of these shooting, I also wonder if he got the idea from the Trolly square shooting?

I wondered if there were some other nebraskans or omahans on this forum. I am surprised to find I actually recognize run_diggity as a regular poster. Who knew you were so close to me?
