Okay we hate Bermuda shorts...BUT..

I think low-rise boot cut's are here to stay. One problem I have with jeans with "stretch" is that the waist becomes huge throughout the day, and I am constantly hiking my jeans up. I am now looking for jeans without stretch. I don't think they make any. :)

I vote to keep them too. They suit my short, high waisted bod. My hip to waist ratio is minimal and this rectangle loves low-rise jeans. I'm with Wendy on the shorts. Last year at Gap and Old Navy, they seemed to be carrying 3' inseams and nothinng else and with my legs I look like a walking stick and it ain't pretty! Beside, my mama was modest and so am I!

Hey, I lived in Naperville - the Naper Settlement chapel is so beautiful! DH and I considered it for our wedding, but then we ended up getting married in Peoria (where we live now). I went to high school in Naperville, and my parents still live up there.

Small world! :)

Emily and Dani,

It is a small world. I'm in Orland Park not wearing Bermuda shorts! LOL!

Dallas

PS. Emily I e-mailed you that recipe.

I like the low rise boot cut jeans too. I understand about the shorts too, can they get any shorter? I don't want the whole world to see my behind when I bend over or even part of it when standing up straight! LOL!

I have to say that I caved and bought 2 pairs of longer shorts (walking/bermuda shorts). I got them at Ann Taylor loft, and they are petite. They fit great, and they look nice with a tank top or a sleeveless dress top. I do recommend a comfortable sandal with a heel (let me know if you find someThey also sell petite shorts (regular length shorts) on their website. I am 5' 1", so I am right there with you on the boot cut jeans. :)

It seems like there are only two lengths available right now for shorts: bermuda and super-short. I'm not tall, but I do like bermudas and have also found two really cute, flattering pairs at Loft. I'd like to find a pair of preppy plaid shorts - so if anyone knows where to find those, please share!

With respect to jeans, I've always worn boot-cut as they are the most flattering, but I get frustrated b/c I'm one of the few people who can't wear the low-rise, and it seems more and more difficult to find regular waist anymore.

Re: 80s fashions...in my part of the country, they have already been in stores for a couple of seasons now. I almost died when I saw a pair of jellies!

Love the lower cut, flared leg pants--way flattering. I'm 5'7" and not as (ahem) trim as I would like and this style draws attention away from my thighs and makes me look much leaner. I also love pencil skirts with high waists. Banana Republic sold this style this spring--unbelievably flattering. I think this was a 40s style because during WWII (trivia alert), fashion designs had to use less fabric because so much material (wool for uniforms, silk for parachutes, etc.) for the war effort. That's why in the 1950s, those huge skirts came out. There were no restrictions on material supply.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.;)

Definitely keep the low-rise, boot cut. I think they really flatter almost anyone (although, the shortness of the rise should depend upon how in shape someone is). I think they even look good on men. I hate to see men with their jeans pulled up to their waists or above and their shirts tucked in!!!

Gosh, I'm so old. I love bermuda shorts and bought a whole bunch of them recently. The trick is to find the right fit, though, some of them look really dorky.

What's this about Wendy not being able to get out of bed???? Wendy, are you PREGNANT? :)

I am a fan of retro dressing and I realize this is a list, not one thing and is not going to make me very popular, but here I go:

I actually do wear almost all the following in my real life, but I do wear contemporary clothing as well, I am not in some strange time warp, but I do mix vintage with contemporary clothing and I am not a big pants wearer.

Full Fashion Stockings with seams, keyholes, and Cuban Heels (still available, but VERY expensive, but I actually sometimes wear them)

RHT Stockings - I still wear these too

Old Fashioned Garter Belts with 6 Garters per side, not those cheesy Victoria's Secret Ones

Heels that are not platforms - the ones with the 2 to 4 inch heel and sometimes with ankle straps

Hats - Large & Lacy (like the ones still worn at the Kentucky Derby)

Gloves always -- Women used to never go out all posed up without gloves.

Crinolines

Sandra Dee Style Dresses

Silk Charmeuse Dresses like the Italian Sirens once wore

Furs and Fur Trims (but not real ones like in the past since I don't fancy killing animals for their pelts)

One Piece Swimsuits - the kind without all the cut out places

Old Fashion Two Piece Swimsuits that were waist length or grazed along the navel

Old fashion see through full back panties (I wear these in white, beige, and black)

A Classic String of Pearls, choker and longer length to double and knot

Classic Pearl Earrings

A Website that actually sells many of these items is:

www.secretsinlace.com

And here is an intersting and little known Victoria's Secret Fact List:

There was never a Victoria, nor was the company British -- that was all to help create an illusion of class

The founder was an American Man

He sold his business to the Limited for millions, lost the money, and jumped to his death off the San Franciso Bridge

Here is the way I often dress when out -- stockings, flower in hair, heels, and skirt -- the bustier is, of course, contemporary -- (Proenza Schouler for Target). The Heels and the Skirt are Vintage just like me (I am closing in on 53):

And here is a photo of me and my puppy (he is on a gentle leader; that is not a muzzle).

My husband took it yesterday when were walking the dog.
