Okay...I'm giving up...and getting some professional help...

with my diet!! Although I may need help in other areas, I'm taking one step at a time. I made an appointment with the certified nutritionist that writes the monthy newsletter for my gym. Ever since my move to AZ my eating has been all over the place...good, bad, not so bad, horrible and I am just tired of it. Despite trying my hardest, I am still fighting (and losing) the craving battle, and my willpower has just vanished. I still get at least 2 or three cardio sessions in a week(and lately they have involved some pretty long and intense hikes)but nothing is happening. I have so busy lately that my weight work has dropped down to once or twice a week. I feel that the workouts are adequate...it must be the food. Since Xmas I have been trying to eat better.....but my clothes are still tight and the scale will not move. The consultation will give me an eating plan tailored for me and spell out exactly what my body needs after she does a metabolic and body composition test. It should be very interesting....Has anyone else gone to a CN?? Did they help??? I'll let you know what I find out....my appt. is next Wednesday. Take Care,

Donna

A naturopathic doctor I see told me that I should eat only ONE carb per meal. I used to have severe craving problems, too...and terrible hunger between meals. My problem was that my body couldn't handle all the carbs and lack of protein. She said that I should definitely eat carbs, but limit them to only one serving per meal. That includes corn, carrots, potatoes, fruit, bread, rice, and all the other typical carbs. Each meal should include a serving of protein, and lunch and dinner should include a vegetable, such as green beans, coleslaw, salad. Snacks should be all protein, such as almonds, peanuts, lowfat cottage cheese, string cheese, etc.

My life is too hectic right now to follow this diet (I'm moving, so I have absolutely no time to prep meals between work, packing, and making arrangements). I'm doing "okay", but I've definitely slipped. But while I was following this diet before my life turned upside down, I was amazed at how long I could go without getting hungry or having cravings.

Oh, and I've found that diet sodas cause me to have AWFUL cravings!!! I won't even touch that junk, anymore. Aspartame (artificial sweetener in diet sodas) is just TERRIBLE for the body, anyway. It's very unhealthy. At any rate, kick the diet drinks (not just diet soda, but every drink that's "light" or "low-cal") out of your life (if you drink them) and see how your cravings do.

Also, take a good multivitamin (I love Nature's Sunshine's Super Supplemental), and maybe try food enzymes (again, Nature's Sunshine's Food Enzymes are wonderful) to help break down your food and clean your body out.

See a naturopathic or holistic doctor, if you have one in your area. They know what they're talking about...at least mine does! She's wonderful!

RE: Okay...I'm giving up...and getting some professiona...

Donna,

I think what your doing is wonderful, I am sure that it will make a huge difference for you...as diet is 80% of fat loss and exercise is the other 20%.

I would strongly suggest seeing your physician and getting some blood work done just to rule out any medical problems that might be hindering your weight loss..like Hypothyroidism..

Good luck!
:)

Good for you Donna! What a great idea.

As pretty much everyone here knows, I saw a nutritionist and it completely changed the way I eat. Although I'm back to eating some processed foods again now (Luna bars are just so darn convenient), at least I know right from wrong, and I'm eating a lot better than I used to. My cholesterol is way down and I feel better too.

Please report back and share your new-found wisdom with us all!
