OK You Kettlebell Enablers....

After reading all the praises about KB's, I decided to search out instructors in MN. I found out Senior RKC instructor Andrea DuCane (produced the KB Goddess dvd) has classes just 15 minutes from my home. I contacted her and we have a private instruction scheduled for tomorrow morning. Since I have suffered a torn rotator cuff and hamstring in the last few years, I thought a private lesson to learn the proper form would be a good idea. I'm excited but nervous. Any advice you experts can give me would be appreciated. The fee is $90/hour...do I need to tip also?

I'll let you know how our session goes tomorrow.

JJ

No, you def. don't need to tip! :)

My only tip is be careful of that shoulder--in my limited experience KB routines are very shoulder dominant. Make sure Andrea knows about it from the start.

And please ask her if she ever puts out a DVD again to include music & better premixes. ;)

Wow, JJ, that is so cool! You'll have to give us a full report tomorrow!

I would ask her to go over basic/most popular moves with you like the swing, snatch, windmill, etc. to make sure that your form is correct. Are there certain moves that you don't feel comfortable with? If so, ask her to go over those with you, too.

Tneah and I recently took a three-week session with Lauren Brooks, and it was so helpful! For instance, the DVD instructors always say to "load your lats" during the windmill, which I thought I was doing, but when she came by and made adjustments, I really felt my lats being loaded. ;)

I agree with Leanne, make sure she goes over the basic moves and corrects your form, using the right form makes all the difference, have fun!

Have a great time!

A one-on-one session with one of the top KB trainers sounds fab. And well worth the money, IMO. As others have said, tell her about your previous injuries right up front, and ask a lot of questions (when you leave the session, you want to feel like you really know what you're doing).

I attended one workshop locally (well, 2 hours away, but it was worth it for me), but there were 12 people in it, and I didn't get as much individual attention as I'd like (though 3 hours for $45 wasn't a bad deal at all).

Thanks for your responses. Andrea is sending a health & fitness form for me to fill out and bring to our session. This will be the first thing we go over. I have to be very aware of my shoulder even though it is completely healed. It still grinds, pinches, and snaps occasionally which typical (according my surgeon) but it does get inflamed & sore more quickly. My goal is to learn and perfect the proper form so I can eventually purchase dvd's like AOS to do at home.

I'll report back tomorrow:)

I had some very stubborn rotator cuff problems in the past, and since my involvment with kettlebells they are 99% gone. If you do it right, KBs actually will help your shoulder problems.

another big thumbs up
