Please tell me it's not just me. :eek: I love the comfort of the material, but there seems to be something in it that starts to smell bad after a time. After maybe a dozen wears & washes it gets pretty stinky, unlike my cotton stuff.

Maybe it's the polyester? Or maybe I'm the stinky one? :p
 
I have not had the problem at all...and I even did my first triathlon in a DriFit top and shorts so they definitely got sweaty. There are some definite wash and dry instructions and I always hang mine over the basket when they are sweaty if I am not going to immediately wash them. Maybe it is some weird combo with your detergent and the fabric?
 
There is theoretically a detergent that was invented for just this problem (I don't think it's you). I can't recall the name of it, but I heard about it on a Dr. Fitness & the Fat Guy podcast, so their webpage may have it listed. It's theoretically sold at sporting good stores and also available on the web. When I have more time, I'll try to track it down and post here.

Thanks Beth! I was starting to get a complex. :eek: Personally I think it's the polyester, but I could be wrong.

I don't know if this is the same one Beth is talking about, but I've used it --http://www.windetergent.com/ I do honestly think it made a difference, but it's $8 for a small bottle, and it's a little inconvenient to go to a biking or running specialty store to buy it, so I haven't used it in a while.

ETA: If you look at Win detergent on Amazon, you can find some other brands of detergent for athletic wear.

No, Beth, I'm not. I think it's two weeks from now. My DDs are leaving really early that following Tues. to go to NYC for a week with their theatre dept. & they want/need me here to help them pack and deal with jitters, etc. Maybe next year. I hope you are doing well!

Laura you are so funny. It isn't you. It IS the fabric! It wicks the sweat away from the body including all the bodies natural ordors,oils, bacteria pool up and stay in the fabric the end result is well, . . . .not so sweet smelling it is a build up of all that stuff, .. and all it takes is an hour with a Cathe DVD or a 45 minute run outside to realize that I can scare even the flies away. The good news is that I just read an article in one of my running magazines that talks about the newer technology of wicking fabric and they are making it odor resistant now. The costs are a little more but I'll be excited to give one a try. In all honesty I don't really see how sucessful it will be. A lot of the wicking shirts have SPF which after a few washes comes off anyway and they cost a lot more too. :) Here is a detergent that helps.

I don't have the special detergent but I read someplace that setting the washer for at least a 15 min soak should help. I do all my workout loads that way now-- it seems to help quite a bit.
 
Thanks ladies, you've made me feel better. All my KOS USA pants are going in the trash--I'd already removed them from my gym wardrobe & relegated them to my basement wardrobe, but now even I can't stand the smell of myself in them. :eek:

Amy, I'll try the extra soaking too. I usually wash delicate cycle w/warm water & oxyclean, but that doesn't seem to be doing the trick. I'm gonna buy some of this stuff b/c I have some almost new clothes that are already starting to eminate some rather unpleasant odor. ;)
 
I just wanted to add, I have used Win detergent for about a year. I know it is a bit pricey but it took all the old sweaty smells out of the majority of my running clothes. I think it is great!...:)
 
We use Win, also. You can get it through Amazon with free shipping. It's not ideal, but it does help.

P.S. It's sometimes referred to as the "dead mouse" smell!
