Ok...I am addicted to sugar

Wild Turkey?:p That is hysterical! And for the record, my DH is like that with any food he likes, he cannot stop until its all gone.

If there is something I crave and want, I have a large serving, and toss the rest in the trash, or buy single serving sizes. That is how I "control" my sweet tooth. Or, I wait and have a treat away from home, that way its not in the house calling to me.:)
Like peanut butter? I know if I keep a whole jar in the house, its gone in three days. Not good for my bottom line, so I do not buy it except on the rare occasion.

Melanie,

I think (hope?) I'm in the same boat as you. I've packed on about 25 lbs in the past year or two and started an antidepressant today....hopefully I'll be able to fit into my old clothes soon. :) Did you find your energy increased when you started the antidepressants?

:)

I totally see your point and agree with you (only because it was related to margaritas ;)), it was just at first read your post seemed to be a bit sarcastic. I have been struggling so much with this and if felt like you were making fun of what a struggle it can be, making it sound like it should be so easy to do it only once in a while. I get what you were saying now.

Missy

Oh no, I definitely didn't want to be sarcastic (well, only about the Spitzer comments! LOL!).

>I just need something sweet after lunch and dinner, sometimes

That doesn't sound like much of an addiction, at least not a physical need. Sounds more like you've gotten into the habit of having something sweet after lunch and dinner to 'cap off' the experience.

If you really want to get away from that pIEce of chocolate or marshmAllows or cookies, why not try an alternate ending to the meal? A sweet fruit or a cup of sweet herbal tea might do the trick. A homemade cookie might be healthier than store-bought.

On the other hand, if these are the only junk foods in your diet, and you only have them twice a day, that's not so horrible. I think for most people, as long as one eats about 80% healthy foods, the other 20% can be up for grabs (within limits), at least from a health standpoint.

I have a teeny treat every day. Keeps the Monster at bay.

Gayle, your avatar is so sweet!! Who is that puppy? I love the expression of total disapproval. :)

Hey Suzanne,

That's my boxer Rascal. It's a pic of him chillin' on the deck last summer.

That's his "let sleeping dogs lie" look. :D

>I have a teeny treat every day. Keeps the Monster at bay.

I do the same. I have a stash of dark chocolate in my cabinet that I purchased specifically for this very purpose!:9

Yep, that's me too. I can't be trusted with sugar/ white flour which is why I call it *crack*. But to you with the willpower to stop at 2 cookies and 1/2 cup of ice cream, kudos to you!! ;-)

i can related to everyone and their sweet tooth. For me, I have a threshold and when I cross it it gets ugly. If i don't eat any white stuff and eat plenty of veggies and protein I can get away with some popcorn, or a a little ice cream or a chocolate everyday. My problem is when I go over this, then I become crazy "hungry" and start eating everything in sight. So my restriction of white stuff allows me the treats i really want. I really just try to eat as good as I can so I can get my treats! Sad, but it's true.
