Oh that Evil Sugar!

Runcrazy

Cathlete
I am now 3 weeks without sugar - yeah! I find it amazing how I went through this period of "can't say no" to sugar! Finally, it was a snickers bar everyday at 3:00 or some gooey carmel chocolate chewey something scrumptous! It wasn't that I was gaining weight, but I could tell a difference in how I felt and I couldn't say NO!

So finally I decided enough is enough! The first 3 days were the hardest and now nothing phases me. I also love german chocolate cake and jamoaca almond fudge ice cream - things I can't pass up. In the last 3 weeks, I've successfully said no to all my favorite things and I no longer care! Also, I made it through Halloween without even sampling ANYTHING and right now my DH just baked a homemade apple pie and I won't be having any!

So for anyone else hooked on sugar..."Just say NO!" :) :) :)

Congrats on kicking the habit! I admire and aspire. Do you notice any differences in your moods or mental changes? What about energy level? And of course, the obvious question, any weight loss?
Hoping to follow in your footsteps,
Bobbi

Yes, no ups and downs and I no longer feel tired late in the afternoon. The first week I ate brown rice with my lunch and that helped curb my cravings and I increased my water intake. Also, I have lost a couple of pounds but I'm not sure if it's attributed to that or just coincidence - especially since I increased my water intake. The other big thing I've noticed is my skin - my skin is smoother and no breakouts.

Jo

Cutting out sugar and breakfast cereal is the best thing I ever did for my skin! Both cause massive breakouts...at least in some people's cases... Way to go!

That's so great...sugar is my next challenge. I'm not looking forward to it.

Just interesting to mention, as a child I did NOT like or eat sugar. I've never liked sodas & don't even know what most candy bars have in them. Then I met DH. End of story!

Congratulations!

Ruth:)

I wasn't all that excited by candy as a child either, adn started when I met DH too. I know how it has affected me. I really want to give it up but it is so hard. Congratulations for being able to do that. This is one goal that has been so hard for me to meet but I've not given up.

Way to go, Jo!! It's definitely a tough habit to break, and I applaud you for your success!!

Jo,

I went cold-turkey on sugar around the same time you did. I have to *strongly* agree with you that it has made me feel much better, and that the cravings disappeared within a few days. Unlike you, I tasted a piece of my daughter's Halloween candy. Happily, I can report that it tasted grossly sweet, and just made me very thirsty. Cutting out sugar has made me realize that the taste of it is actually pretty boring. I have really enjoyed the added flavour of my food, since I've had to become more creative with spicing it up, and the lack of sugar has helped me come to appreciate the genuine taste of food. I baked an acorn squash for dinner last night and had to force myself not to eat the whole thing - no sugar, spices, fats, or salts added. It was just soooo delicious.

All the best,
Sandra

Thank you everyone! Sandra, YES I have experienced some of these other things as well like food tasting better! This whole sugar craving thing is so bizarre! Who'd of thought it could control us like that? Anyway, it wasn't like I was totally out of control, it's just that I was having it everday, and could not say no to treats! I feel great that I am not tempted by it now and hope to continue. Thank you again! :) :)

Jo

First of all congratulations! That is great. This is also something I am working on... I went all last week without sugar. But as part of my "easing myself in to it" plan, I had a cheat weekend, but now that I've experienced a week without it, then had some over the weekend, I realize that I do feel better without it!

Can I add one thing... No one commented on the fact that your husband baked an apple pie! What a husband! (Now you just need to get him to make something elaborate that doesn't involve sugar!:+ )

Keep up the accomplishments!
