Oh P90Xers - yet another ?

Sorry to be a pain in the patutti, but I have yet another question for those of you who have done this program. I'm just starting the 2nd month, which brings in Cardio X. I've only previewed it, not tried it, but it doesn't look too terribly cardio to me. When I think cardio on video I think an IMAX, lowmax, a Cathe kickbox, etc. Do you all do this and find it beneficial - or do you sub in a Cathe? TIA

Lorrie

I didn't care for Cardio X, it seemed disjointed to me. I also agree that it didn't feel cardio enough. I subbed another cardio for it.

P90X is purposely light on cardio, to make sure that it doesn't have a catabolic effect on muscle.

I think I used Cardio X maybe once or twice. I really don't like the yoga warm-up (I want to do CARDIO!). I did use Kenpo X. And I subbed other cardio for P9OX cardio from time to time.

Is there a workout called CardioX?? Can you tell I've not used that one. :7 I'd sub something else. Are you doing the doubles rotation. I am doing the classic and I don't remember seeing CardioX on that one. Oh well, if it is I'm bout done with my rotation anyway :7

Lorrie...sometimes what I would do is a warm-up of CardioX and then an easy 3 mile run. I think it would be fine to sub another cardio workout for it....:)...Carole

I actually like Cardio x. At first I thought it wasn't much cardio, but then I still find it beneficial. I still sweat doing it, and I think it does workout your heart. Though it is lighter than all the Cathe workouts, it is definitely nice to have when you are doing the P90x rotation.

Are you doing doubles(I'm not sure if it's a part of the lean rotation as I never did that one)?? If it has come up on your rotation because you're doing doubles than yes it's a less intense cardio workout for a reason. Doing an Imax a couple of times a week plus the entire X rotation could really hinder your progress, as the main purpose of the X is muscle growth and not necessarily weight loss. If you don't want to do Cardio X then you could sub in another form of light steady state cardio, but in my opinion not something along the lines of an Imax. The only thing I would probably sub an Imax type workout for would be Plyo since Plyo is also pretty intense cardio. Hope this helps.

One thing you could think of (and I think next time I'll try Carole's suggestion): for me, with my HRM, I have had the following calorie counts:
HCE#3: 830
Cardio X: 335
Plyo X: 530
6 mi hilly run: 800
Imax 2: 675

So Cardio X is pretty light on cardio based on what I've done recently. I will do it again, because I liked it. I did keep my HR exactly where Tony H wanted it to be throughout, so that was good.

Hi Lorrie,

I believe I am on the same day as you for the X. I did CardioX this am before Chest, Shoulders & Tris. It doesn't have much momentum, but the intensity will really be up to you I think. It is a nice little mix and not real challenging, but for this program I think it is appropriate.

I am going to use it as the plan suggests to begin with (for Doubles, but I am doing both workouts back to back) just to see how it goes. Some days are Cardio and PlyoX together...so I don't think I will reach for a Cathe on those days.

With that said, I think you could sub out a Cathe from time to time..I added some because I was having withdrawls, and am seeing results already from Tony anyway. But I am trying to be careful about just how much intensity I use, because I really do want to see some strength and mass gains. I have already decided that after the 90, I am going to do a rotation of Cathe's to cut fat.

Hope you are enjoying P90X...

Julie

Hey Julie,
I am finishing my classic rotation and would love some of your ideas about a cutting the fat rotation. Besides my eating habitsx( . I eat moderately clean and just don't know if I can do any more than that- at least not for very long- maybe a minute or so:p :p

Catherine

Hey Catherine,

I am thinking about looking through Cathe's rotations and picking something that has a lot of circuit and cardio, with maybe one heavy day for upper and one for lower per week. That should be quite a shock to the body after P90X...Hope you got good results from the Classic!
