Oh no!

I just got my boss's wedding invitation. The wedding's July 15. I still feel absolutely horrible about this. Give me some really good gift recommendations. Price is not an issue. (don't go overboard here--I mean I'm willing to spend a couple hundred, not a couple thousand  )

Background: they're both about 50, it's his 3rd marriage & her 2nd, she has 2 kids & he has 3. They're keeping both residences (he lives down the shore, she lives here). Please help!

Does the invitation mention where they are registered? i know some people don't register, but if they did and you could tell us where, then i can help you better:D

I certainly HOPE the invitation doesn't say where they're registered! That's extremely poor etiquette!

You should ask your boss personally if he and his fiancee are registered anywhere. If he says yes, then great - go to that store (or stores) and buy items in your price range. Problem solved! :) If he says no, then ask him if there is anything that they would like in starting their new life together.

Shouldn't she see if they're registered for puppies first? I think a goldfish is more suitable for a 3rd marriage.

This gift is $300.00. Is there anyone at work that can go in on it with you? My hubby just bought me the greatest gift about a month ago and I use it everyday! It is a Magnavox 15" HD-LCD TV that stands on our countertop in the kitchen. It is only about 4" deep. I love it for when I am cleaning or catching up on Oprah & Dr. Phil when I am preparing dinner. Everyone that stops by thinks that it is a computer monitor in our kitchen. :7 I know it is over your $200.00 limit but I'm sure someone could help you out. Oh, also we got it Sam's Club.

I checked the etiquette book. Goldfish are for 2nd marriages. It definitely says "puppy" for third. Even if they're not registered for one, you should get one. They probably just don't even realize how much they NEED a puppy and how much a puppy would validate their union. People will be snorting with derision if they don't quickly put "puppy" on their registry list.

And hey, if you decide against something more traditional and less likely to poop on their floor, then get ME a puppy:)

What are their tastes like? Get them a fabulous Jonathon Adler vase, or a Martha Sturdy resin piece. Both would go in either traditional or modern decor quite well. On the other hand, a toaster is always nice. And if you want to splurge, get a toaster OVEN! Now, that's a rich gift.

Shutting up now.

Emily: it is poor etiquette, but people still do it all the time, so ya never know! Alot of people don't put it on the invitation, but they include a card the size of a business card with the invitation that lists where they registerd. Uncouth, but very helpful :)

Mama D's idea is great! given the fact that they have been married before, they PROBABLY have most of the stuff you need around the house already.

Also, gift certificates are getting pretty popular (not very personal, but they were my favorite shower gifts:D

They're not registered anywhere. They actually put on the invitation no gifts--"your presence is your gift." But now I have some sucking up to do--I told him this morning I couldn't make it & he seemed pretty hurt. I need to do something really special I think, I don't want to do a vase or a crystal bowl, I want to do something unique that'll make him cry.

Maximus,

It sounds like they are not registered because it's a 3rd marriage, and they probably don't need a whole lot of household items that couples just starting out need.

What about something to commemorate the occasion such as something engraved? You might check a catalog called Red Envelope that I have been getting recently that seemed to have some pretty interesting things.

Good luck!

Sandra S.

P.s. I am sure that red envelope has a website! Just don't know what it is offhand.

Hi Maximus, I was at a party this weekend and saw a really neat wedding gift. This woman went to "Pier 1" and she got this beautiful lined wicker basket and put 2 very nice wine glasses in it with a bottle of wine and some candles, I thought it was very nice, a great gift. Just a thought!

Sandy
