Oh no! Powerstrike 3: Initial viewing...DON'T like it..

eeek! after hearing so many raves on powerstrike, i caved and bought it a few weeks ago...i received it last week, was viewing it, when it started freezing up, hanging etc..so i emailed them, and they're sending me a replacement. (which was nice...) BUT......

upon my initial viewing of the video..i'm SOOOOOOO BUMMED to say...I DON'T THINK I LIKE IT..AT ALL! :( i'm probably gonna be the only dissenter..everybody else just raves on these vids...and maybe i need to watch the whole dvd, and work out to it to get the 'full effect' (i'm hoping i'm gonna like it after trying it..i'm still waiting for my replacement dvd to arrive) BUT..i just didn't care for the instructors too much...and the camera angle is really bothersome. typically, things like the set, background exercisers, outfits, music type things...don't bother me..but for some reason THIS ONE REALLY BOTHERS me. :( the camera angle goes from the ground to the instructors armpit! eek! it's so hard to see what's goin on...

gee wiz...lately the new videos i've gotten (kari anderson's reach and push, and this powerstrike) have been duds for me :(...i just haven't cared much for them...sheesh, let's face it..i've just gotta stick with cathe and christi..and just call it a day. :p (it's such a bummer after spending the $$ on these tapes, when i could have gotten cathe's coremax or stretch max or something, ya know?...i'm not much of a swapper..but i may have to try and swap these away, to make me feel better about the whole thing...

okay, i totally digressed..sorry...so, anybody else get powerstrike 3 and had initial reservations about it...only to find that they now LOVE it?!!

what a disappointment....but..fortunately, i always have kpc, cardio kics and kmax to fall back on. THANK GOODNESS FOR CATHE!!!!! :D

hope you're all having a great weekend!

The camera work is really bad (extreme close-ups of Illaria's armpit, and of Patricia's face), but not as bad as some of the earlier Powerstrikes. And the workout does take off a bit more slowly than most PS workouts, but I like to use it to work on form.

I wouldn't say M3 is the best Powerstrike. M1 and M2 are better (the camera work isn't funky strange at all, and the workouts are more intense.

There are were about 12 Powerstrike workouts made over the course of several years. The earliest ones had dizzying camera work (like somebody's 12-year-old brother just got a video camera and wanted to try it out), but the workouts themselves were great. The camera work improved (with the odd exception of M3), and the workouts stayed great.

thanks, kathryn...

well...i went with powerstrike 3...b/c i heard it was better in terms of balancing the arm work.....alternating vs. just one side to the 'point of noodle arm' before moving to the other arm. they did mention the camera angle..but i didn't anticipate it to be THAT BAD!...

sigh...i wish i would have asked here at cathe's forum, before purchasing... rather than just checking reviews and other forums. :(

oh well...live and learn.

thanks again..

I know what you mean.I have all 3 of them and it takes every once of energy I have to put it in the VCR.But I don't like kickbox on the best of days. After I do the workout though I feel better and I always feel it the next day. They are awesome workouts but the music (same song over and over)and the camera work suck!
Lori:)

I have Powerstrike 1. I like the workout but the music is so repetitive and boring.

hey mariangeles....

a noticed you're a self professed 'taebo junkie' ;) which tae bo's do you recommend? i only have billy's first group of vids. (where he goes double time like a crazy man! i couldn't handle that..) if i were to re-visit tae bo...is there a video you might suggest? (he has so many now...how do you choose, ya know?) ;)

thanks so much! :)

Have you looked into Turbo Jam from beachbody yet? If you like kickboxing mixed with fun dance moves you'll like this. I had a blast doing this workout the other day. I had a smile on my face the whole time. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/fdm/clap2.gif

BTW, I have Powerstrike 3 and don't care for it too much either. I tried it once and it's just collecting dust right now.

Hi Beanqueen, first of all excuse the waiting for my answer. My favorite TAEBO workouts are the number 4 and 7 of the basic lived series, the number 2 of the live series(I only have the nº 1,2,3,5 and 12 of the advnced live series) advanced and the get ripper series advanced too.If you want more information go to this website: taebofans.com. I have ordered Turbo Jam and I can't wait to have them in my hands.

thanks dani and mariangeles..

i know..turbo jam..(sigh) i've been eyeying that one, too...but due to my recent disappointing video purchases (trying to branch out.. :p) i'm a bit gun shy.

dani, how would you categorize the intensity of the workout? it it primarily cardio ..and would it be an intermediate/light day workout?
i have bad knees, so like something lower impact..i love kpc, ckicks but both sometimes wreak havoc on my knees. would turbo jam fit the bill for lower impact w/ good cardio? and btw, which one did you get? (there are so many!) or did you get the whole shabang? (i'm scared to commit to the $60-ish purchase, after my disapointing powerstrike etc..)

whatchya think?

thanks a bunch!

I didn't like the Powerstrike #3, but I have to say I really like the Powerstrike millenium #2. It is one tought workout. You do have to get used to the camera angle and the instructors are so-so but I think the Powerstrike #2 is awesome. Give a try a few time before you make a decision on it. I know what you mean though about being disappointed in new purchases. I recently bought turbo-jam and couldn't stand it. I guess we are so spoiled with Cathe. I just pray to god she never stops making videos.

Is there anywhere to view an actual clip from Powerstrike or TurboJam?

TIA

Beanqueen, did you ever actually TRY the workout? It doesn't seem like you'd really get the intensity without trying it.

I just finished doing PS Millenium 1, and was drenched in sweat!

I didn't even notice the repetitive music that much, because I was working on my form.

And I really like Illaria and Patricia. They have a good rapport, and their form is perfect! The background exercisers all have good form as well.

And they continuously give form pointers to make sure you are doing it right and feel it where it should be felt.

Unfortunately, the only PS workout on DVD is M3, and if the condition of my M1 video is any indication (bad tracking and buzzing at the beggining and end) my video versions aren't going to last. :-(

Hi there! You can do Turbo Jam high or low impact w/good cardio. One of the background exercisers has always done Turbo Jam low impact and she lost 75 pounds!! She looks phenomenal! There is someone in the background modifying. I would say the intensity is pretty high. I was very sweaty afterwards but it didn't feel like I was working out because of the huge fun factor. I ordered the whole thing. I know you can order them individually though. They were definitely worth it to me. :)
