Oh man, not another P90X thread!

Ahem, yes, I know, I should do a search, but I specifically want to know about P90X Legs and I'm not searching through 8 gazillion topics to find a post about it. So there.

So, for those P90X grads, how does Tony's leg work compare to Cathe's? Better, worse, the same level? Talk to me!:)

Shelley,

If I remember correctly, most people have posted that Tony's leg workouts are "not enough". I haven't done it, but DH even says he prefers the GS legs (not the floorwork, won't do that:) ) over P90X legs or prefers to do his own leg workout. He says P90X legs doesn't "do enough for him".

Shelley,

P90X Legs & Back is not as hard as some of Cathe's leg work, so I add weight to some of the exercises that don't call for weight and also use more weight in some. It alternates leg exercises with differing types of pull-ups and altogether is a tough workout. It gives me DOMS every week, especially when I add weight to the wall squats!

I do add an additional Cathe leg workout onto my Plyo X day because Legs & Back wouldn't be enough for an entire week for me. So, I end up with 1 1/2 leg workouts per week. HTH! :)

Hi Shelley,

Legs & Back as it's produced, isn't as hard as Cathe's leg workouts. However, the body weight only leg exercises that Tony uses are pretty much different from Cathe's which makes it a very nice change of pace.

I usually substitute the back exercises in this workout with a weighted leg or glute exercises like deadlifts or leg presses to make it a more intense lower body workout.

In a word..."pathetic".

I think partly because Cathe already has our legs super strong, so Tony's moves are not as challenging. Also, he has you do 1 leg workout once a week. Just another example of how the series is more geared towards men (which is totally fine...not knocking that).

When I did the series, I incorporated Cathe's Hardcore Gym Style Legs workout.

Tony doesn't use heavy weights, he mostly uses body weight. Alot different than Cathe's way of working legs.

My legs looked really good after I did the Classic rotation as is. I felt like the Plyo X and Yoga X worked my legs, along with the Legs and back X workout.

I think if you want to build muscle in your legs, you would want to add more, but if you just want to maintain and tone your legs, It's enough. :)

Hi Shelley,
In a word, it doesn't. However, P90X's leg workout is very good in it's own way....different from Cathe in that it targets endurance in a more gentle way ( so to speak ) , without large numbers of squats,lunges,step-ups etc.. His legs work in conjunction with his plyo workout is great.

I took myself off Cathe from Dec-Feb and did P90X + Turbo Jam and lost 30 lbs. Had a great time with the Turbo Jams...like those workouts cuz they speak to the dancer in me. deb

Hi Deb! Long time no see!

I guess I should just give it a try and then figure it out from there. The thought of no Cathe scares the bejeebers out of me!

Tony's leg workout is a weight-free workout with some very effective and challenging moves (wall squats, lunges variations), but I didn't find it sufficient for me to keep my booty! (I had to add in Rockit squats after a few weeks, to feel like I was getting enough work for the booty, and went on a 'rebuild the booty' rotation after P90X).

Everything else in P90X was great for me, but not the lower body work. I think P90 Masters' "Plyo Legs" is actually a better lower body workout for my needs.

Shelly,

I've read multiple times that the X "doesn't have enough leg work." This was simply NOT my experience at ALL. After YEARS and YEARS of Cathe leg work, I had strong, but not very defined legs. One round of the X (3 months) has given me more strength and definition gains EVERYWHERE, including legs (this is the first time in a LONG time where I've honestly really liked the way my legs are looking - a LONG time! And they are incredibly strong - much stronger than anything I got from heavy barbell laden leg work.).

But, it's not just Legs & Back that did it - I think it's the combo of PlyoX (which I honestly feel is equally a lower body workout as a cardio workout, if not moreso!), YogaX, Legs & Back, and KenpoX. If I had to pick 2 of those ..... I'd chose PlyoX and Legs & Back. But you really should throw YogaX in that mix as well.

I used to feel the same way.

Now, I'll never look back. Those days were good, but ... they are so over! At least for me - nothing compares to the X.

I haven't yet brought myself to ebay all of my Cathe's, but that day is coming.

Shelly, I am probably one of the few that don't like p90X.
I think Tony is annoying and arrogant and trying to sell suppliments.
JMO:Don't get mad folks. I sold the program on E-bay.
I just didn't like him...
I am a cathe addict..
I just sold like 40 dvd's. No one compares that i have bought.
So. This is my opinion.

I will say I do like PlyoX! It does burn the legs! I also agree that YogaX is worth doing. Getting everything stretch, nice and flexible adds to the toned look. Also, a lot of the moves are challenging!

I have to agree with m.'s post...I got definition after the classic rotation and I do believe it was from the combination and sequencing of the workouts. I did not use any Cathe leg work in addition to the X.
When I first started, I was really afraid of increasing my body fat due to the "less cardio" factor, so I started out supplementing with Cathe cardio, but I quit that pretty early on. My body fat % went down, and for the first time, my leg muscles were defined and easily visible.

I'm with Michelle - I thinking I'm going over to the Tony side ;) not sure if I'll ever be back.

The results of folks on p90x are truly spectacular. There's a certain woman who just posted leg shots after p90x and I've NEVER seen anything as amazing. It got me to work out at 11:30 pm the other night in fact ;)

P90x is an amazing rotation - I wouldn't recommend doing just a few work outs but with the whole rotation lifting, body weight, cardio, abs and body weight it's incredible. The diet is also very integral part of it.

Shelly - I could see you really loving it. We've got a great group over on the beachbody site and would love to see you over there.

It's a very different forum - probably 50% guys and total fitness focus so I do still come here for the O/T threads. Very supportive like the check-ins here.

Anyhow I'm finishing up week 4 and having my protein drink (thanks Shelley for introducing me to designer whey vanilla from Walmart).

Shelly,

You go girl with getting P90X!!! Yeah!!!

Yes, the leg workouts are different from Cathe, but they are good and Plyo X ROCKS the house as does AB RIPPER X!!!LOL

When I was doing the P90X rotation I added in Cathe: Legs and glutes 1-2 times per week. I was also doing doubles and I was doing weights in the am and cardio in the pm..mostly HIIT and a few Cathe workouts like IMAX, Low Max etc...I got amazing results from the P90X rotation.

Have fun with Tony..he can be kind of annoying sometimes..but you just can't help but love the guy!

"emmm I suggest foot spray"

Those are my favorite comments!

Robyn, can you tell which poster posted the great legs? I love to see the results from P90X. :) I'm finishing up my 2nd week of a doubles rotation. I haven't done a full rotation for over a year.
