Off track- Any who have had breast augmentation

Mic

Cathlete
I just recently had one six weeks ago. Being so fit minded and not ever really just concerned about how I look, this is new to me. I'm still very fit minded but now I have a more outward appearance, if you know what I mean. Before my breasts were never really a thought in regards to working out and now that has changed. Now, I'm trying to get back slowly into jogging and I wonder if you can suggest any workout bras. To me having anything bounce is just strange. They are not huge I guess, I'm only a 34C, I'm just trying to get used to them. So if you can suggest any workout bras and I would like to start lifting again, were there any chest exercises you avoided? Thank you very much.

Congratulations, Mic!

Do you like your new babies?

I am a 34D and just have to make sure mine don't bounce so I wear anything that secures me! BTW, mine are my own but I bet yours are prettier :+

Thank you for that nice comment. Actually, I'm still getting used to them. I'll move my arm and notice I hit my breast on accident. It's like there already a part of me, I just have to realize that now there is something to look at there. I really did it because I was at a point in my life where I wasn't having anymore kids and you can work out a lot of things but not those. So I just decided to do something for me and that was it. Thanks, I'll just try to look for things that will keep them strapped down. I'm not the type that wants them bouncing all over the place.

I just had reconstruction (DIEP flap) on the breast cancer side on this past November 22nd. I was off for six full weeks, although I have to fess up to riding (walk only) after five weeks. I am careful of chest work, esp pushups.

The Orphan will be matched ot the Adopted Daughter later this spring after more healing has taken place and swelling has receded.

I use the Champion bras (high motion control) for working out and the Enell Last Resort bra for riding (sitting trot - whew!).

I had mine done in 1999. I was already weight lifting then, and I took about 8 wks off for upper body. Since then, I am weight lifting as usual. I dont find that I have to make any special adjustments or anything like that. I do have a friend who had hers done about 5 years ago. She works out, but she is afraid to do any kind of chest work. I tried to tell her it wont hurt her to do so, but she wont go for it! I do everything, chest press with barbell, or dumbells, chest flyes etc. As long as your dr. says it is o.k., you should be fine.

Thanks for the workout information, I have heard people say that you shouldn't go to heavy with chest work after a breast augmentation. But you know I saw a Dr.90210 where this woman who competed in bodybuilding championships got right back to her weightlifing after, I think it was six weeks. I don't lift nearly as much as she does. I'm surprised about the comment regarding pushups, I would've thought that was fine. Thanks this is very helpful. I'll also look for the champion bras.

I had one in Sept. 2005. I took off maybe 2 months from upper body but was back to lower body/cardio in 3 weeks. It KILLED me to take that long off, granted I was walking 4 miles a day but still compared to Cathe workouts walking is nothing.

Anyway, as for moves I avoid- chest flys can sometime be "uncomfortable" if I use too much weight but that is just when I've worked my chest more than usual. Doing dips off a ball or bench you can see the implants flatten, it's fuuny! Also doing push-ups I can see them flatten out - mine are under the muscle.

I didn't have much skin/fat there to start with-I was like a negative A, honestly. Now i am a FULL B or small C - the w/o bras I wear are Champion and Nike. I do find in both I need to get a smaller size -nike small & champion S/M to "hold them in good". You are a 34C though so maybe medium in nike and M in Champion...

If you want more info, let me know-will probably be back in the forum this evening! :)

I am 1- week post op ...I am now a 34-D, and may end up bigger when i drop...Shocking isn't it???? from a barely b. Never the less no workouts yet.
My surgeon said no cardio for 6 weeks. He doesn't want the heart rate up . I guess it can cause the big CC. No UB weights for 8. I am bummin.... I can start walking 30 min a day next week.

Sports bras. I bought some zip front ones at Sears for like 18 a piece. They are holding them boys right now.

What about the good old Nike sports bras . I am going back to them for working out. I bought some Med ones before christmas on sale. I hope they fit. I know my smalls are not going to.

Sara, aka Imafitnessfreak runs.Maybe she can recommend something. I do believe once she said something about a Victorias secret sports bra...

Good luck..

Okay now I'm concerned, I was going to start lifting weights again for the upper-body next week which would technically be seven weeks out. I wonder if I should wait longer. My doctor had told me after six weeks anything is okay but if it hurts then slow down. It's so strange, I'm still trying to get used to the size. They are not that big but to me they are really big. When you go from nothing to something it's strange. I'll start my jogging in at a slow pace and hopefully that'll be alright. I feel like my muscle mass is shrinking from all this time off but I don't want to go to fast and miss something up. Thanks for all the great information.

This is a really interesting thread. There was a thread in a forum on one of the rock climbing sites where women were wishing they were A cups! The bigger-breasted women were finding their larger size was interfering with their climbing. I think it would be harder for me to play sports with anything larger than my A cup. There's definitely less for people to hit when I'm boxing!! :)

I don't have any experience, but I just wanted to say that I bet the majority of fitness and figure competitors have had augmentation, and you can bet they don't slack on chest work.:)

I'll bet you are absolutely right Shell!

I know I don't slack and I have a set!;)

Lucinda,
I looked at your pic trail and think you look really great...athletic, sexy and agree that anything larger is beside the point of fitenss and health but gets into another area of self esteem entirely. deb

It is interesting isn't it? I always read about breast augmentation with surprise and curiosity... not being able to imagine wanting to be bigger! I love to run and I know my small size is a positive thing in that regard. Also, as I age, I have found that my A cups haven't sagged a bit!

Everybody is different though. Good luck to those of you who have made the decision to augment! :)

Victorias Secret has an awesome bra that has adjustable hooks underneath the arms!! I love this bra! It allows for a larger cup yet smaller rib cage. My problem was, if I found a sports bra that fit in the cups, it was too loose around my body. But with the VS bra, I can adjust the hook closure under each arm for a snug fit! It claims to be "medium support/control" but it is more than that! Holds everything in place perfectly and nothing spills out the sides!

My second favorite is the Champion bra from Target. Parisian has them too, and since they are going out of business, you can get them dirt cheap!

As for chest work, it was my PERSONAL PREFERENCE to wait several months before doing chest work...4-6 months I waited. I didn't need to wait that long, I just did!

Strange things felt weird...didn't hurt...just **weird**. Tricep dips felt **weird** and ab crunches felt **weird**. Do not worry!! Everything feels normal before you know it!!

As for explanations to your decision to have a breast augmentation...you don't owe us one! Never feel a need to explain or justify it to anyone! It's your business!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Thanks once again all of you who have let me know what fitness bras to choose and how you decided to go about performing your workouts again. Thank you for your kind words regarding the surgery. We all have different body types, different shapes I think that's what helps to make all women beautiful in our own individual ways. I do believe that most of the women on this site are very concerned with fitness and that's really our bottom line. I love that I can still keep up with my kids and that all my check-ups at the doctors office are very good. Whatever other choices we choose to make with our bodies are just that, choices. Thanks again.
