Hi Cathletes,
I'm not sure if any of you have experienced this, but recently (last 7 months) I've started to get a lot of blackheads on my back, legs .....pretty much everywhere except my face & hands. Steaming in the shower etc. didn't seem to do much (like it did with teen acne). I have finally though found something that has worked for me and just thought I'd share. I started using a lotion with malic acid about every 5-6 days and it is 80% cleared up. Very, very happy! I tried salicyclic (3%) in the past but it turned my skin rashy. Salicyclic is probably one of the best if you have thick, oily skin I would think.
I mean, I am sure if you can afford full body diamond peels etc. at the spa, this would work too ;), maybe even quicker, but if you want something at home, I would recommend giving it a go.

(I have sensitive, reactive skin. I don't wear 'technical' workout tops etc. has to be cotton/hemp etc.)

Cheers!!

Hi Elsie. Thanks for sharing this tip. Curious - where do you find lotion with malic acid? I have found it as a powder, but I don't recall ever seeing it in a lotion. That's very interesting! So did you use it once every 5-6 days or every day for 5-6 days? And you started seeing results in that short of time? That's pretty good! I'm interested in learning more about this...
Thanks!!

Hey sneakers,
Yes I have been using it once every 5-6 days (I am transitioning to every 8 days now) because it has a peeling effect just like any other peeling acid, even if it's derived from a natural source. Malic is from apples. If your skin is thicker or oilyer than mine and you do not see much sun this time of year, I think you could get away with every 4 days for a little bit and then go to every 8-9.
I'll be honest, before I posted on here I did not realize that it isn't so easy to find retail and I apologize for that. I bought mine from a lady I was in some aromatherapy and body butter making classes with. She went on to do more complicated things, so I wanted to try it out. She is very small scale. She is not making any more presently, but will likely make more for purchase in the New Year. It does seem to be more popular in Korean skincare brands, so you might find something on ebay or if you live near an Asian mall, there would likely be something available there. There is also etsy of course, where people sell things that they handcraft themselves and I have bought some superb skin products from there.
One mass brand that I could find is M2. Here is a link to their malic acid lotion/serum http://www.eskincarestore.com/M2-Body-Refinish-15-P13335 Have also heard some good things about this brand https://www.amazon.com/HYDRO-GLO-Sk...srs=3038266011&ie=UTF8&qid=1481361807&sr=8-11 although their products do act more like a pure peel rather than a lotion.

I am thinking that this may be an opportunity for me to get back into making more of my own stuff! lol. I already make a little.

Something that may help is Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Tea Tree Oil Soap. My son had problems with folliculitis and Dr. Bronner's helped enormously. For myself, I cut it with glycerine for moisturizing purposes in a glass pump bottle for the shower. I've passed this on to a few men-friends with bacne and have heard good comments. Pure tea tree essential oil on its own is incredibly effective against bacteria, including staph and MRSA. Never fails to zap a pimple on my face nearly overnight. If you buy the pure essential oil, Australia has the most stringent quality levels in force.
