Odd Strengths/Weaknesses

Hi Cathe (or anyone else who can help)

I have a somewhat weird question. I used to lift weights for years and then stopped for about 8 years when I had kids. I got back into it on my own recently (and also finsihed P90x a few months back). My problem is, because I got back into it "unsupervised" (and P90x did not give any guidance as to the amt of weight to use) I just went with the amount of weight that felt good using the exercises that I used to do. But somehow, I messed up the weight of the various body parts and find myself not proportionately strong (especially in my upper body). That is, when I do your workout tapes, I can tell that some parts of my body are much stronger than others and I even look much "bulkier" in those places. For expample, my shoulders are very strong. I can keep up pound for pound with your weight on the shoulder exercises in the tapes I do. However, my biceps seem inproportionately weak and I have trouble keeping up with a weight lower than yours. This causes problems when I am doing some exercises, because the inproportionately weak muscles fatigue before the ones that I am supposed to be working out get to their failure point. Do you have any suggestions on what to do or do I just have to keep doing what I am doing and wait for the weaker muscles to "catch up"?

Thx!:)

Hi Irish196! As long as you are not skipping certain body parts, or not working each body part to its fullest potential, or selecting too few exercises compared to another body part or using too light a weight when you know you are able to lift heavier, then you are fine. We all have some body parts that are stronger than others but as long as we train each body part consistently and equally hard we will reach our maximum potential for each body part.

I think it would benefit you to vary your workout programs every month or so and your weaker muscle groups will eventually catch up or balance out.

Good Luck!

great! Thanks a ton. Thanks for putting out some really great videos! I am not really into the step, but your boot camp, drill max, kickbox type workouts all rock! I have never gotten so sweaty on a consistent basis working out in my life- they are just what I have needed!! For some reason even my golf game has gotten significantly better since I have been doing my all-Cathe rotations (over the past 3-4 months)!!

Karen:)
