This may seem really stupid but I've got to rant a little.

I have read all of Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series books. I just finished "Predator" and am REALLY disappointed. I was also disappointed with the 2 prior books. It seems like her books just aren't as great as they were in the beginning. I'm not going to give any info away just in case someone else is reading it. I looked forward for months for this book to come out and I think it's crap!

Has anyone else found this with one of their favorite authors'? I think I can say now that she's not my fav anymore.

Hi Kimbra -

Patricia Cornwell has always been one of my favorite authors as well. And I have to say that I coudlnt even get through half of one of the last ones - I can't even remember which one now.

I am a big James Patterson fan as well - and some of them are not as good anymore. It seems cranking out the books is a bit more important than quality....

I agree with you guys. Used to love all of Patricia Cornwell's and James Patterson's books. Lately they all seem to basically have the same plot. Seems to me when these authors get popular they are pressured to crank out the books like a puppy mill and they don't put as much thought into the story line.

I have not read any yet, but I hear that John Sanford's "Prey" series is very good. :)

I agree with the consesus about Cornwell. I think her books have gotten too dark and depressing. Same thing happened to PD James, in my opinion.

I do enjoy Sanford's "Prey" series. A lot. I enjoy the main characters sense of humor. I always enjoy Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich's book too.

I don't like what she's done with Lucy's character. I don't mind the dark and wierd stuff (that's why I started reading her). The last few books seem to constantly jump back and forth between locations and characters. This last book didn't have an ending. I guess that means there's going to be another one. It's not like Cornwell comes out with a book or two every year. I think it's been a couple of years since Trace came out and before that it was awhile because she was working on the Jack the Ripper book (do you believe she really solved it?).

I also love Sue Grafton. I used to read Robert Walker and Leonard Goldberg (Jessica Coran and Joanna Blalock Series) but neither one of them has come out with recent books lately (and when they do I can't seem to find them).

Kimbra

P.S. I hope I'm never a suspect in a murder because the police would look at my bookshelf and see all my forensic science books and seriel killer books and think "What a nut."

:D
