Hi all!

I suppose nothing is O/T in Open Discussion! I would like to know if anyone has an MPA. I'll be finishing my BSBA at the end of the summer and would like to begin taking master's courses immediately after. I'm debating between the MBA with a major in nonprofit or an MPA. I want to work for a nonprofit animal welfare type of place. Which do you think will be more valuable/suitable?

Thanks in advance!!!

Gina, it's my understanding that an MPA prepares one for work in a governmental agency. A MBA program with a curriculum that includes courses relevant to non-profit organizations would be a better choice. But most MBA programs do not do fit your needs.

My husband is a professor at the Dricker School of Business in Claremont, CA & many of their students intend to work for non-profits so their courses reflect the student's goals.

Good luck. Ask a lot of questions as you explore programs. Make sure the classes you want are actually taught on a regular basis. Don't assume because they are listed in the catalog, that they are scheduled. I learned that lesson at UC Davis when selecting 2nd year electives.
