What is an endenoscopy? I know what a colonoscopy is.
My mom bought some cleansing crap and has been in the bathroom for a week since the 1st dose. She is bleeding now . She went to the Dr. and he sent her directly to the hosp . Mom and dad were at it(for god knows what reason), so she went alone. She called me last night to tell me and to call dad and I am sending my daughter to take him up to hosp tomorrow because her car is there.
Why do they run this test? Should i be worried?

Do you mean endoscophy? My daughter was suppose to have one of those when she was younger. Basically they numb the mouth and throat, and heavily sedate, but not put the patient under. Then they insert a tube down the throat to look at the stomach and such to see if there is any reason for the problem. A co-worker had this done and said it really was not that bad. He said that although you are awake, you are so woozy, you don't have any pain, or real awareness of what is being done.

Prayers for your Mom, hope they find the cause. Usually doing this is searching for answers, because they don't have any. Hopefully it gives some to help heal your Mom.

Anne, this is a very common procedure. In fact my DH is having one in a couple of weeks for his ongoing stomach pain issue. I'm sure the doctors know what they are doing and they'll take good care of your mom.

it is basically the same thing as a colonoscopy,,just the other end! they are likely looking for the source of bleeding.

Not to worry Anne. This is a relatively simple and common procedure. A long tube or scope is inserted via the mouth down the esophagus and the patient is fully sedated first. Most of the time they sleep right through it. Usually the bleeding source is found,
such as an ulcer in the stomach or duodenum and the problem is fixed right then and there. This is by injecting a sclerosing chemical to cauterize the area or by using a heated probe. Your mom should be fine!

take care
