Nothing seems to fit me :-(

I am playing in a wedding this June and am looking for a skirt/top. It needs to be on the long side and needs to be kind of flowy and able to move around. And, it needs to be somewhat inexpensive. I saw a cute pink (that's the color of the wedding) skirt on the walmart website, so I went there this evening. Man, talk about depressing. Nothing fits me good! Well, the skirt fit, but nothing looks good on me! Ugg. I thought flared skirts were good for people with bigger hips/thighs, but this just accented the wideness. I left the store almost in tears out of frustration (obviously not JUST about the skirt, but also about the fact that I've been working my butt off...---well appartely not enough of it off:p , and me clothes just seem to get tighter and tighter)

Sorry for the vent, I just get some mad at myself, and then I get jealous of all the people who can try and keep anything they try on beacuse they have no real "problem spots" like I do. Auk! Sorry again, just needed to vent.

If anyone knows where I might find a nice outfit, I'm up to hearing about it.

CBG...hang in there! You'll find the right outfit yet. What about going for a darker skirt, say black or navy, and then pairing it with a lighter top in the pink color?

I'll tell you, I have a friend who is shaped as is often described as 'big boned'. She is the same width from top to bottom...just generally 'thick' from neck to ankle. Okay, everytime she dresses in black she looks 20 pounds thinner, I kid you not. And I'll say to her..."You've lost weight", and she'll say no I haven't, I just know how to camoflage it! And boy, does she ever!

I find that things from Walmart, Target, etc. tend to be designed with the 5'2 92 pound teenie bopper in mind, and look horrible on a woman who has curves. Is there a Nordstrom Rack around? They tend to have some great clothes at good prices and if you're deligent, you can find some good deals.

Also, check the standards from around here - Anne Taylor Loft, Gap, JCrew... Often times they'll have things on sales at wonderful prices and you can get some really cute clothes designed for those of us over 13. And check online as well at these stores. Sometimes they have something on sale on line, but not in the store.

Good luck!

Thanks for the kind advise guys. I was having a "moment" and just needed to vent about it. That's what's so great about these forums! :) I'm not giving up in my search ::gets a determined, I'm-gonna-conquor-the-clothes-racks look:: until I find something that is pretty, I like, and is slimming (or at least somewhat flattering):+

Oh, by the way, my dimensions are about a 34-30-43 with narrow shoulders but bigggg hips/upper thighs.

I would try some place other than Wal-Mart. I don't think their clothes are cut well at all...thus the cheap price. They just are not cut right!

Kohl's as some cute and feminine looks this Spring and their prices are low. The new "Candies" line they are now carrying has a very "romantic" feel.

I know that this is just me and it is 100% my opinion...but I don't think anyone looks good in those fuller skirts. Just not my taste.

You'll find something and you'll look amazing!!

The thing about the flowy skirts: look for those which have a flat panel in the waist/hip area as opposed to those which flow out directly from the waist. I saw this on WNTW; the difference in the fit is really striking!

BTW, I'd check TJ Maxx or Marshall's. You can get great stuff at good prices if you are willing to shop often. (I am!) :)

Good luck!

I agree with Marie. You also want to make sure you try it on with dress shoes/high heels because the shoes make a huge difference in how your skirt looks. I would go with a pointy toe. If you want to camouflage your hips, I suggest you wear a lighter color on the bottom with a darker top left untucked. Good luck! I know with diligence you'll find something great.

THANKS so much everyone!!! All that great advice! I actaully went shopping today at the mall. After trying on multiple outfits and having them fit me all the same (I did find the flowy skirts, but they puffed out right at the top), I finally went to 1 last store: Maurices. I ended up buying a long white peasant-style skirt, but like Marie recommended, it doesn't flare out at all at the top. I really like it. And then I also found a pretty pink shirt--it's got a v-neck with an attached undershirt. It also has ribbon lace around an empire waist and 2 verticle panels of lace down the front (which I think give it a longer, leaner look.

So, I did it!!! :) lol. And, I think it is fancy enough (especially if I do my hair nice and wear some nice earings/necklace) for the wedding, but also casual enough to wear (which I will cause I totally love it) :)

Anyways, just thought I'd share my "happy ending" and end this thread on a positive note.

Congratulations on your great find! Your new outfit sounds lovely. A top with panels and empire style waist are always good. Oh, I hope you'll post a picture;). Doesn't it feel great to find an outfit you love?
