Not sure where to start

Hi! Im a very active, somewhat slim, 51 year old. I own a Yoga Studio, teach Yoga 4 times a week and work full time at another job, have horses, etc.... Super busy.

I belong to a gym, but Im having trouble finding the time to drive the 15 miles to get there. II loved going and saw great results doing weights 2 - 3x a week, but my "busy-ness" is getting in the way!

My biggest concern.. is of course, belly fat.. Any suggestions on where to start?!? I just feel like something is missing in my activity. And I am also wondering if someone out there has had belly fat and loose skin from pregnancy and got rid of it! (without surgery;) I own quite a few Cathe DVD;s, but just not sure where to begin. Thank you for any guidance you may have!

Hi Suzette,
you sound amazingly busy!
it sounds like you're doing everything right; maybe try mixing things up, stepping up your cardio intensity, and looking at your nutrient intake.
Good luck!

With all that you do, there is no way I would go to a gym, thats just me, unless it was downstairs from an apt.

Belly fat seems to be primarily a combination of diet/exercise. Based on the sheer amount of yoga you do, I'm willing to bet that you are already very strong. (wish I was you!) For the fat, look into avoiding goitergens (soy, peanut, and raw cruciferous.) those inhibit your ability to properly use the thyroid hormone that your thyroid gland makes. Definitely be sure to use coconut oil in place of vegetable oil or canola oil. It won't work in a home made mayonaisse very well, but it works great in home made muffins, stir fries, or on toast. It will rev up your metabolism. But, here is the thing, since you do yoga you may already look fabulous!! If you don't already, you may wish to switch to all organic dairy. The hormones used to fatten livestock get into their milk and don't cook away during the pasteurization process.

As for the exercise component: For me it requires more cardio, but some people do better with lifting heavy. It just depends on how your body responds to the workouts. But, since it looks like you really like the weights, Cathe is really a one stop shop in that area. I really like the Pyramids series, 4 Day Split, and her circuits, especially Drill Max, can't be beat.

There's a common saying, "Abs are made in the kitchen." This is 100% true for me at the age of 49.
Tosca Reno addressed this in this month's issue of Oxygen magazine. She said it is the number one complaint from women. Her advice is simple... coconut oil and stop eating sugar. Sugar in the form of processed carbs. She said she ditched all grains but quinoa and oats and has the leanest abs at the age of 50.

I have lost my belly fat simply by watching what I eat and weight lifting plus some cardio.

I believe that for us women, as we get older, we must have the muscle gains to get rid of the fat loss.

I am 47 and have had 4 children. For the most part, I have lost most of my belly fat. I have lost 25 pounds simply by being faithful with weight lifting, cardio and watching what I eat. I think yoga is great and all, but for the belly issues we need more.

And I would not drive 15 miles to workout either. This is why I love working out at home. For me, I had to make a real commitment to it though, because it is too easy to renege on my decision...so things like these boards and regularly treating myself to new dvds are mandatory activities for me to encourage myself and keep myself working out.
