Not hardcore but trying

I got the email for STS2 about 5 weeks ago and it inspired me to work out again. I also started a diet. I thought to go back to STS to get ready for STS2. I did the first two and then stopped. I did at least stick to the diet. Down 5 pounds and at 72 and always watching calories, that is pretty fast. I received STS2 today and will probably play around with it until a rotation is posted. Since I haven't posted since March 2011, I haven't kept up with other threads. Can I be honest and say that most of the women posting intimidate me. They seem to like working out. It takes me a lot of effort to start a workout even though I don't mind doing it. I usually get around to workout at 11pm. Since this is the Cathe site probably everyone is more hardcore, but if you need more encouragement please post here. Joan

I’m definitely not hardcore. Simply a 70+ trying to stay healthy. I modify when I need to do so. Welcome back and just try to focus on one step at a time. Don’t feel that you need to be at a certain level to post. There’s no competition here.

Joan C., Go at your own post. We all have our own cadence!

I don't think I have the LITE series. I bought the complete set of all Cathe back before the original STS. I haven't done anything for the last week. My son got married on Sunday and I had family in from several states. But I feel great today, after eating everything and anything I wanted , I weighed the same as a week ago. Back to WW today.
I did the 1rep max before STS originally and am just adjusting to lighter (probably too light) but I am being careful.

Congratulations to your son Joan! Also congratulations on maintaining your weight loss. I think Lite was released about 2019. STS maybe 2009?

I tend to lift lighter than I think I should but better safe than sorry. :)

Finished giant sets. I am doing the 12 week rotation of STS2. I really like the workout cards.
Since I didn't preview the workout first I just used 1/3 of the weight Cathe used. Sorry to say that is about right. My knees won't let me do lunges. What would hit the same muscles?

Yes I did squats but wasn't sure if it hit all the same muscles. My left knee was sore last night but seems to be ok this morning. I wonder what mobility will be like later today.

Haven't tried static lunges in awhile. It worked when I had my toes against a post so my knee wouldn't go past toes. All other lunges hurt.

I won't be doing mobility 1 again. I am still dizzy and it has been at least 15 minutes. Too much hanging head down. I was surprised that the last position on that dvd I had my feet together and legs flat on floor.

Finished trisets Tuesday and tried active recovery Wednesday. You were right about Active recovery. I picked a few exercises to do and then did some of total body stretch.

I found out I can't do any exercise that involves kneeling-it hurts.

I do like firewalkers. I haven't done them in a long time. On to start of week 2, I didn't even look to see which one it is but I know they don't repeat in order.

Joan

yea finished super sets so at least I am in week 2. Looking at week 4 with lower body 1 and 2 , of course lots of lunges. I got out lower body blast, lean legs & abs, gym style legs and great glutes. I'm thinking of adding premix to the weeks 4-9 but I will have to review them. It's been years since I've done one of them . Weeks 10 and 12 don't have any lower body, that seems strange.

Yes I have been told I have arthritis and shots in both knees. They don't bother me other than lunges. Back 25 years ago I had a trainer 3 times a week for nine years and was in good shape but lunges bothered me then.
I like to say 16 years ago I had a baby. My granddaughter was born and I took care of her since she was 2 weeks old. I didn't lose the 10lbs I had gained over Christmas that I normally always lost in January (she was born in January). I was so busy with her that I stopped exercising and 3 years later I got my grandson. Yes I only had them 5 days a week but I am self employed and had to do my work evenings and weekends. Then 9 years ago my mother, who lived with us, had to go to a nursing home. I went twice a day for 4 years bringing her lunch and dinner because she didn't like the food. I don't have an excuse for the last 5 years for not exercising but I did try several times but did not keep up with it for more than a week. I plan on this time to not give up.

Did not post super sets the other day or that I did most of STS original extended stretch. I think I will probably use that instead of STS2 for recovery.
I did the short version of lower body blast without the squats since I also did tri sets.
I was able to do warrior lunges with the gliding disks. and lunges with the front foot on a low step.

Finished week 2 on Tuesday. So will start week 3 with tri sets today. I don't mind the 12 week rotation. I seem to need a written schedule to follow. Choosing a workout myself even though I have dozens of dvds would probably end with no workout.

Joan, please don't feel intimidated at all. The beauty of Cathe workouts is that you can customize them to your abilities. We all have to start somewhere and work through physical limitations, illnesses, and whatever challenges life throws at us. I find there is a collective wisdom amongst Cathletes so keep on trying and ask questions because quite often at least one of us has ideas that can help-as you can see already! It's not that we are hard core, we are just dedicated to staying strong and healthy. Of course there are people like me who enjoy my workouts with Cathe and maybe one day you will too.

Thanks snowlover, it's funny I actually enjoy the workouts once I get started. It's the getting started. I finished tri sets this morning. I even lifted heavier than the other 2 days of tri sets and I can already feel the soreness. But that's good.

Tomorrow I take my husband in for a second biopsy in 6 months . They thought they would only need it every 2 years. I don't expect to get much done tomorrow but should be able to get a lot of walking in while I'm waiting.

Good Father's day but too much eating. Finished giant sets. Ten reps seems so much harder than eight. Supersets on Tuesday and week three will be done.
