No sweets - week of July 15

Rose11

Cathlete
Hello ladies. Yesterday I did a short cardio + C&T + abs. Today of course was my rest day. :p I have news about my niece, yesterday my mom told me that they took her to the 2nd best neurosurgeon in PR and he said that he was going to put her on a diet (she's a very overweight teenager) and she will keep using meds for 3 months (she also has to avoid the sun at all costs among other things). If she gets better she might not need surgery. Her condition is not encephalitis as other doctors told her previously, but hydroencephalia that started to develop when she started her teen years. She needs to do what the doctor told her to do and then in 3 months we'll know if surgery is necessary or not. I think the news are much better now.

Back to the check-in, yesterday I went to eat with a couple of friends and I did some damage, but I'm getting back on track now. I'll be doing GS for some time because it is very effective, but not for long (maybe 3 more weeks) and then I'll do something else.

Affirm - Are you liking the results from GS so far?

Catherine - How was the concert? I'm dying to know.

I hope you have a nice week ladies. We have a local holiday tomorrow so I'll have some extra time to workout. Yippee!

Hey Rose, I hope your neice is able to get better without surgery. Please keep us updated!!

I too have had a less than clean weekend in eating. But it's back on track now.

The concert was AWESOME!! I could've listened all night long!! Sting looks so good- better than he did 20 years ago. He obviously works out!!

I was gonna take a rest day today, but instead mustered up the energy to do P90X legs & back minus the back work. Was planning to do pullups later, but didn't make it :(

I think Affirm is enjoying the GS series }( :+

Rose, I am so glad to hear that things are looking much better now for your neice. I know your family will rally behind her and offer her much encouragement and support as she strives to follow the doctor's orders for the next few months.

Yes, I am enjoying the GS series. Unfortunately, I haven't worked out the last 2 days due to a very busy mornings the last 2 days. I was scheduled to do C & T yesterday but knew I wouldn't get my son to his swim meet in time if I did. Also, eating wasn't great today either. I had a cinnabon---yes I ate the whole thing.

Cinnabon yummmmmmmm!!! Wiping the drool away from face now LOL!!

Affirm, you could actually do PUB after 45 min CF? I never do CF it's so blasted tough }(

I did upper body today with moderate wts:
Bench: 25# DBs 3x12(same, should've increased wt)
Pec Flys: 20# DB 3x12 (more reps on sets 2 & 3 than last time)
BB rows: 50# 3x12 (switched from DB row for some variety)
BB overhead press: 40# 1x12, 1x11, & 1x8 (went too heavy want at least 12 reps per set)
Skull Crushers: 12# 3x14 (2 more reps on last set than last time)
Kickbacks: 12# 3x12 (same)
Concentration Curls: 15# 1x15, 1x12 & 1x10 (less wt, more reps than last time)

Now I am ready for beddy bye!! But it's too darn early LOL!!
Eating was good today BTW :D

Yes, I was practically drooling over the cinnabon. It was so good, but I felt so guilty today thinking about it. I ate totally clean today. I just had talapia fish, salad and nectarine for dinner. I have to control the munchies.

I did Scrambled Cardio Premix (46 min.) from Drill Max followed by 10 minutes of Core abs from Butts and Gutts. I haven't been doing abs much lately, but when I do I usually opt for the more traditional style. I have a hard time with abs on the ball. I guess that shows that I need to strengthen my core. Anyway, I just did what I could today and even in those 10 minutes, I feel off the ball a few times and also had to take breaks. I know I need to try it more often until I can get the hang of it.

Ladies I like the way you mix up your workouts. Yesterday I took an additional rest day because of PMS symptoms (mostly because of neck and lower back pain). Today I feel better but I don't know what I'll end up doing when it comes time to workout. We'll see.

Catherine - Sting always looks great. Seems as if he looks younger with age. Jon Bon Jovi is the exact same way. Their secret is no mystery. They workout a lot and it shows in their upper body definition. I'm glad we know that secret well. :D

PMS- Uggggghhhhh!! I hope you are better Rose.
Affirm, DM premixes kick my patooty every time!! I don't know why, but I hate that first drill x(

I did LIC cardio premix plus abs. I really have to make myself do abs. Affirm, don't feel bad about stability ball abs. I laugh at myself everytime I try to do them!!

This morning I did the GS-- BSB timesaver (36 min) follwed by the step only premix of Cardio and Weights (30 min). I know I haven't done this workout in over a year. It is the only workout that I do on an 8 inch step because it takes that to get the heart rate going. I can't imagine doing any of the Imax's on an 8 inch step. It was definitely nice doing a workout that I haven't done in a very long time. I guess that is one way to shock the body too. Mine definitely needs some shocking right now. Eating has been good the last 2 days alo. After that big treat(cinnabon) on Sunday, I don't deserve anything for the next 2 weeks.

I hope you ladies are enjoying your week.

I've been super busy at work. I hope it slows down a just a wee bit.

Affirm, I love doing C&W step portion. It's just fun and I don't have to think too much ya know? Perfect to follow a tough wt tape :D

I ate 3 reeses minatures today x( Gotta stop that. But had a nice big salad for lunch Mmmmmmmmm. Peanut butter and banana preworkout snack and protein shake post w/o.

Oh I did chinups today-6,5,5,3,&4 Not too bad. I am really feeling these in my back more now. I used to feel them alot in the biceps, but now feeling those back muscles work. This must be a good sign!!!

I did legs today also:
Squats 65#: 2 sets 11 and 1 set 10 (up one rep on 1st 2 sets)
Bulgarian Squats 2-20# DBs: 4x6 (extra rep on 1st set and it's real hard to balance doing these with 2- 20# DBs)
Dead Lifts 70#: 1x12 and 2x10 (up 2 reps on 1st set- keeping grip difficult)
Plie Squats 2-20# DBs: 1x4 (got a major butt cramp ) 2x8
Calf Raises 2-28.75# DBs: 3x20 (5 more reps per set)

Tomorrow will be rest day. I am learning that after this heavy leg day I am pretty tired. So I plan my rest day accordingly.

Hey Rose, how ya doing??

Today was a rest day for me. I took my kids for an icecream treat and I had one spoonful for each. Yummy, but satisfying enough to not have gotten my own bowl.

*Back from the pms saga* :p

Hey ladies! Today I did a short cardio + BSB + abs. This month PMS hit me harder than ever and I didn't workout for 4 days straight. I got back on track today (finally). Since I get terrible lower back and neck pain I thought it was better to rest because I didn't want to risk an injury. Today I did a weigh-in and surprinsingly I didn't gain an ounce. I think that's due to my new diet changes. Hopefully I don't feel tired tomorrow. That usually happens when I take long breaks from working out. We'll see... Take care.

Oh Rose, that PMS can bring about changes to the body along with some aches and pain. I am glad you listened to your body and took some rest. Good hear that the changes to your eating plan is working for you.

This morning was Rythmic Step--whew----that challenge. After the first 2 rounds of the challenge, I wasn't sure if I was going to make it through the last 2...so I just skipped to the cool down. This workout is so much fun though. I wish Cathe would do another one similar to this. It is great workout without all that high impact like the IMAX's. I have Interval Max and Maximum Intensity Cardio on that DVD, but never seem to do MIC. I can't even remember if I have even previewed it. I see it has hi/low impact (which I assume is floor aerobics) followed by step. Do you ladies do this one? If so, what is it like?

Hey Affirm and Rose!!

Rose, glad you are feeling better. Isn't amazing how that TOM can just zap every bit of energy out of ya. My ovaries no longer work (mostly) but I still have PMS and that severely drained feeling ya get x(

Affirm, I don't have RS,IM, & MIC. Maybe I am missing out?? I recently (about a month or so ago) got SB & SP&J and love it. I've only done the step routines not the circiut though.

Today will be upper body here in a bit.
Hope you all have a lovely Friday!!

Upper body is done:
Bench: 70# 3 sets of 8 (last time did 1x8, 1x7, 1x6, 1x5)
Will up bench to 75# next time and see what happens
Pec Flys: 22.5 3x8 (up wt by 2.5#)
DB Row: 40# 1x10, 2x9 (last time did 3x10)
Millitary Press: 50# 3x8 (last time 1x9 & 2x8)
Skull Crushers: 17.5# 1x3 dropped to 16.25 1x3 then 1x5 and 2x6 (up by one rep on last 2 sets)
Incline Curls: 18.75# 1x8, 1x7 & 2x5 (increased by 1 rep on 1st 2 sets)

Seeing some strength increases and happy bout that :D

I woke up with a migraine today. I took some meds, but I'm still struggling with the other symptoms (blurry vision, etc.) At least I did a great workout yesterday because I don't know if I'll be okay enough to workout today.

I have RS, Interval Max, and MIC on VHS. The DVD that has all of those is definitely on my wishlist. I like Interval Max because the choreography is very simple, but the blasts are tough. MIC, boy do I avoid that one! That is probably the toughest Cathe cardio ever and *very* high impact. I rarely do it, but when I used to I either did hi/lo only or step only because the impact is too much. Another thing is that Cathe and crew use an 8" step on both IM and MIC. RS, is another story. If I ever do RS again I'll have to watch it a couple of times because the choreography is definitely complex, but I remember that once you learn how to do most of it the workout is tons of fun. Affirm you are inspiring me to start a rotation with oldies one of these days.

And Catherine whoa...you can bench press 75lbs? Wow! Changing the subject a bit, I remember you posted about your ovaries once. I can't believe you also get PMS. Isn't it awful? The last time I went to the doctor she said that for some women the symptoms get worse as they get older and that some months are worse than others. That is definitely my case. Last week someone started a post about PMS on the OD forum and someone said that if men got PMS they would've find a cure by now. lol! They're probably right.

Have a nice weekend ladies. If I don't workout today, I'll do GS Legs tomorrow. Meanwhile I still have to be good with my diet.
