No Sweets Mar 23rd

Do you think we can do it? One day at a time right? Well, I am off to bed (I worked last night) and when I wake up I plan on having a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal. This is usually when I stick a cookie or something in my mouth.
Good Luck gals...just imagine how much better we will look with no sugar in our systems!!!
Lori:)

I have meetings all day at work, including one that's out of the office, so at least I will be far from the stash of chocolates in our HR person's office.

I think that this is a great check in! I need this so bad. I already had one chocolate today. EEK! It really is so hard to have only one. One just makes you want more and more, and I become a fiend! }( }( }( Better to be a chocolate addict than a meth addict, I guess. But I suppose any addiction is bad, so here I am!

That will be the only chocolate that I eat today, on my honor. I will check in later today and exclaim my success! :D

I will remain optimistic!

I intentionally did not bring any money to the office with me in an effort to BACK SLOWLY AWAY FROM THE VENDING MACHINES. I also packed my lunch so I won't be tempted to get any crap from the cafeteria.

I also think I am colorblind. I got to the office and realized that my black sweater is actually more of a gray and does NOT go with my pants. Ugh. I guess I will just have to sit all day long! lol

Okay if I jump in? I have been on a sweets kick lately. I even had a Cadbury egg yesterday! Of course I have already blown it today though with sugar in my coffee, but that was before I decided to join in here, so I guess I am off the hook with that :D. No more today though!!

Marie... I know how you feel about the mismatched clothing... when I worked in a doctor's office in the late 80's/early 90's, I accidently wore one black patent high heel shoe and one regular black leather heel.... I was mortified when I got to work!! I had the awful habit of tossing my shoes on the bottom of my closet (which I don't do any more, they are in a shoe bag hanging in my closet) and I had two small children to feed, get ready and get to school on time and then get me to work on time. It is a wonder I was even dressed most mornings!!!

I just had to comment when I saw your post! That brought back that memory.

ETA - I'll try this checkin... I do pretty good until certain times of the month. I'm going to try Cathe's suggestion of brushing my teeth when I get a chocolate craving. If I could stop at one or two cookies instead of eating a dozen and a half when I get started, that would help!!:p

Okay, I'm in. I guess putting a little sugar on my steel cut oats is a no-no? I just can't eat them plain!

How long are we going for? A month? A week? Forever?

Just bumping this baby up there. How are you all doing? I'm ok so far, I had a craving earlier and ate yogurt. I did put half-and-half in my coffee, but since coffee is my SOLE lifestyle vice, I'm not cutting it out.

}(

Oh no. If yogurt is included, I'm outta here. I do buy plain and add a very minimal amount of sweetener....

Hey, wait a minute, does white wine count? I'm having dinner out tonight. :x(

In my humble opinion, wine is not a sweet. However, it always leads to sweets with me. I'm going to try very hard to limit my sweets to one or two hard candies at work and one small piece of chocolate (usually a Nestle's treasure) at home after dinner. So far so good, one werthers so far....

I've come up with, I think, an ingenious alternative to the standard sweet treat. I've been toasting 1/2 of a ww english muffin then topping it with sliced almonds and a wee bit of DARK chocolate. I zap it in the MO for a sec or 2 just to melt the chocolate and it's really quite delicious. I don't feel guilty about it at all. I've also added raisins to the mix with very good results. If you really want something sweet I think you could have this without feeling like you've totally blown your diet.

I'm laughing at the coffee post. My only vice also(now that I have to eat clean because I've joined the no sweets check-in).I tried to stop drinking coffee because of how much sugar I used. What a dork. I finally figured out to just skip the sugar. I really thought I would hate coffee w/o sugar. What I found is that the addiction of the coffee is so powerful,I mean wonderful, I actually do not miss the sugar.
But seriously, I did find that cuting out that sugar really stopped the glycemic rollercoaster that would happen later.
Is white wine considered a sweet? I say if after your second glass your still pondering the sugar content of the alcohol...then you haven't drank (drunk?) enough.

I didn't think I really needed to join this check-in, because I had been very good about cutting out sweets the last month or so, but yesterday I had a major binge and I think I need to get back on track. Mind if I join in?

I do have some questions as to what constitutes a "sweet":

I have a daily Starbucks run in the afternoon and I usually get a non-fat latte with sugar-free vanilla syrup and add one splenda. Is this considered a sweet? No real sugar, but it definitely tastes sweet and yummy??

Also, is the big breakfast cookie considered a sweet? I got the recipe and wanted to make a batch this weekend.

Lastly, I eat Zone bars for a snack almost everyday. I know, I know, it has chocolate and has sugar, but I just never considered it a sweet because it doesn't FEEL like a dessert. If I can't eat these for a snack, I will have to figure out some other 40-30-30 snack that doesn't require refridgeration that I can bring to work. Any ideas?

OK, I'm buckling. As a chocoholic and with PMS approaching, I've decided to, gulp, try the no sweets check-in. I may have to be put into a coma to not eat some tiny little morsel of sweet each day.x(

ETA: Just wondering, can we eat a sugar-free cookie and still adhere to the no sweets?}(

just thought I'd share what I just made for a snack:

some milk
designer whey
frozen cherries
chocolate-raspberry flavored liquid stevia (I hope this is allowed)
a tiny bit of unsweetened cocoa powder

Mixed it up all in a blender, and it was reallllly good--kinda like a chocolate-covered cherry! :) And actually, the cherries are sweet enough, so I don't think the stevia is even necessary.
