No salt, sweets, junk food, more water - July 4, 2005

Happy Independence Day!

Well, I've been doing okay with this. I've completely avoided the salty snacks, although the chips were calling to me yesterday. Saturday was the only day I missed on the water. However, I've discovered that I really cannot be allowed to have free rein over the sweets I'm eating. So it's back to the challenge for me, slightly altered. I'm going to allow myself one cheat day on the weekend to have a cookie or dessert or something. Otherwise, I'm just going to go back to my old ways of eating cookies every time I pass the pantry.

How's everyone else doing?

Shelley- Good job avoiding the salty snacks. And I know what you mean about the sweets. You have a great idea of giving yourself one cheat day per week.

The only sweet stuff in the house right now is a box of Slim Fast snack bars. There's some chips in the pantry, but they're for the XSO. I bought a few cases of water on Saturday and have been chugging it freely.

Good morning and Happy 4th everybody.

Shelley - I've decided to use that strategy for sweets myself. Sometimes I don't know the meaning of the words "self control".

One cheat on the salty snacks since 7-1.... Mexican restaurant Saturday night, couldn't pass up the tortilla chips, sorry...:-( I'll just stay away from Mexican restaurants until 8-1.

Getting in enough water as my usual.

Question - does popcorn count as a salty snack? I know we are targeting chips, etc.... so I didn't now if this was included. Of course, I use the "healthy popcorn".

I think popcorn would be fine if it has no added salt. Movie popcorn is definitely out, but air popped with no salt would be okay.

I woke up so bloatedx( x( x( - back on track today with a vengeance! It is hard to believe one day of crappy eating can wreak such havoc on my body.

I'm doing ok too. Didn't get all my water over the weekend, so I'm back on it today. Going back down the IL's today so I'll stay away from the blueberry muffin type bread. That was the only thing that got me yesterday.

That's a great idea about a 1 day sweet allowance. I find if I tell myself something like that, and don't cheat, when the day comes, I don't want it. It all depends on what's in front of me too.:7 I'm so bad w/ control over sweets, if I say "ok Sat. you can have what you want", I'll end up eating sweets all day!x( x( I can stay away from alcohol, you think I'd be able to stay away from dessert!;) Guess that's why I joined the challenge huh?

Keep at it all! Enjoy the rest of your 4th!

Shelley - I have Pop Secret microwave popcorn. It is the low-fat version, however, it has 380 gms. of sodium per serving and there are two servings in a bag. Yikes!! I guess that doesn't qualify in the "no salty snacks" category. This will just have to wait until August 1st. It is amazing how food you feel is healthy, which you use as alternatives to other foods you shouldn't have, turn out to be unhealthy in another sense. Always too much salt or too much sugar. Pick your poison.... x(

RE: No salt, sweets, junk food, more water - July 4, 20...

This challenge has been great for me. I'm more motivated since I have to check in.

I've been doing well with the water and salt restriction, but last night after 2 glasses of wine I got into the whole wheat banana strawberry bread and did some serious damage. After that I decided (as did Shelly) that a cheat day (or meal) is in order, and yesterday was it.

Did you ever notice after more than one glass of wine you have no willpower?!?!

I have a picnic to go to today and will try very hard to fill up on water. The only meat I eat is fish, so I won't be tempted with burgers and hotdogs.

Hope you're all doing well!

I had a bagel with cream cheese, sesame, yum, yum, for breakfast yesterday and I do consider white products like that junk, not to mention the fat in the cream cheese but I don't do it often enough to not do it when my daughter begs for a Sunday morning trip to the baglery. Otherwise, my diet is so clean, it squeaks. I will be going by Starbucks for a green tea frappicino today. I am supposed to take Miss Ali out to practice driving and I will feel as if I deserve a reward if I survive. :D

Okay, so remember those biscuits my boss kept bringing me in June and I didn't eat and I put them in the freezer???

I ate one:-(

One cookie does not a diet blow! They'd better have them at at least one of the Starbucks that have sprung up in such an abudance around here or I will cry. You were smart to call or you'd walk out sans green tea frappicino but with caramel on your breath! :)

Edited to say, they roll it out on the thirteenth here too! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de//bawling.gif

Well I had a small popcorn at the movies yesterday but didn't put any extra oil on it. I signed on with ms. fit and am starting today, July 4th. The diet is very clean and includes plenty of water.

Bobbi-good luck on the driving instruction. Fortunately my hubby taught my oldest son in an automatic. Once he was comfortable I started taking him out. I also taught him how to drive a stick shift, since that's what the car we bought him has. Any way, good luck!

Shelley, if anybody deserved that biscuit, you did. You went the entire month of June and didn't cheat once.

RE: No salt, sweets, junk food, more water - July 4, 20...

Excellent! Does that mean I can eat the other one too?:p

RE: No salt, sweets, junk food, more water - July 4, 20...

LOL... let's not get carried away... you'll hate yourself in the morning. ;)

RE: No salt, sweets, junk food, more water - July 4, 20...

I have raging PMS. I'm already at the hating myself stage.}(

RE: No salt, sweets, junk food, more water - July 4, 20...

Shelley, if it makes you feel any better, my MIL baked brownies from scratch last night. And I've been enjoying them thoroughly. All I keep thinking is "I hope everyone else eats a lot of these so there aren't as many for ME to stuff in my face!" This is not a good weekend for avoiding sweets... :(

Happy 4th everybody! Wow you all made me hungry. Today I cheated in the morning cause I had a glass of grape juice (ugh! I felt so guilty) but I've been doing ok with the sweets, salty snacks and junk food after that. I'm trying to find ways to drink more water though. I always wait until I'm thirsty to drink water and I've heard it shouldn't be that way. I've already started drinking water with food (instead of juice or diet soda) and I always drink water when I exercise, but my problem is drinking water throughout the day. Well the holiday is almost over though:-( , I hope you all have a great week.
