Newbie...Where to start?

Hi Cathe & Everyone,

I have never done any of your workouts but would like to begin. I am doing Chalean Extreme right now and have about 4 or 5 weeks left. I will probably do a recovery workout the next month but would like to join team Cathe next. I am a little overwhelmed by all of the DVD workout choices and hope you all can give me some suggestions on where I should start. I really, really, like the lower reps/heavier weights that I'm getting w/ CLX right now and would like to continue that type of workout. My focus is on weights since I want to add more muscle and don't need to lose weight. Of course I want to keep a couple of days of cardio in my routine too.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi DixieGirl,

You may want to post your question in the open discussion forum to get member replies.
When I started with Cathe, I got the Cross Train Express series because it had all elements to a workout already arrange. However, it isn't heavy weights.

You could get the gym style series and a couple cardio dvds to start. I just did cardio core circuit (premix). It is fun and hard and you don't need any equipment.

Welcome DixieGirl! I think you will enjoy Mesocycle 2 and 3 of my STS program. These are split workouts ( do all three within the week) with less reps and heavier weights, especially in Meso 3. You may also enjoy the Gym Style workouts. There are three workouts ( 2 upper body, one lower body) and you do each one within the week.

If you are looking for Total Body Strength workouts ( as in working the upper & lower body all in one workout), please check out my STS Total Body that will be released very soon. I think you will really enjoy that. I also have the Pyramid DVDs ( 2 DVDs, pyramid upper & pyramid lower body).

As for cardio, I don't know what your taste is ( step, kick box, hit training etc.) but I have the Shock Cardio series that has a little bit of everything at about 35 minutes or so). The harder workouts in this series would be the Hiit DVD or Cardio Core Circuit, moderate intensity would be MMA Boxing and Athletic Step, the lesser intensity ( but not easy) would be MMA Fusion, MMA Kickbox, and Step Moves.

I hope this helps!

Thank you Cathe,
These sound like great options for starting out. I don't like cardio as much as weights but I do it b/c I know I need to. So intense cardio isn't really my thing.

Thanks Melissa for your reply as well. I look forward to trying Cathe's workouts!

I have done CLX, and let me tell you will love Cathe's workouts even more. She has some many options for resistance training. I went up in weight pretty fast with CLX, but I didn't see great results. Sounds like you might like STS or Gym Style...or maybe Slow & Heavy.

Cathe has a ton of Cardio options too, the nice thing is on her site you can watch a clip of them in great detail. You also have the option to purchase them as a download. Good luck with your choices. There is a lot to choose from!!
