Newbie question: what is a rotation???

Hi,

I noticed that a lot a you talk about rotations on the forums and I wonder what they are exactly what their purpose is? I select my workout depending on my mood (or my level of fatigue!) but rotations seem so popular that I wonder how I could benefit from one.

I also noticed that rotations seem to be for 6 days/week. Between work and kids, I can only manage 3 time a wwek. Is a rotation worth it in my case and if so, can I modify the rotations that are posted and how?

Thanks
Nathalie

I can answer some of your questions, then some of the really knowledgeable people can chime in! A rotation is a simply a plan of workouts, often done for a 4 week period. (eg. Cathe's monthly rotations). The plan for the workouts depends on what the intended fitness goal is. Some goals include: strength building, cardio endurance, fat loss, lean out the lower body, more upper body muscle definition, etc. Each week a series of workouts are chosen with that fitness goal in mind. Many advanced exercisers are able to workout 6 days a week, but not everyone chooses to even if they have the time.

Understanding that you have lots to juggle, I think you can try to incorporate some aspect of a rotation into your workouts. I seem to recall from another thread that you were thinking of ordering CTX and you said you could do 90 minute workouts 3x/wk. I'm sure someone can help you create a rotation, but first you should give some thought as to what you want to achieve.

FWIW, I did my first rotation this fall (Cathe's August '07 Lower Body) and was amazed at how toned my legs got and how quickly. I took extra rest days too. HTH!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.
