Newbie Question for Cathe

Seabush

Cathlete
Cathe,

I'm new to your tapes. I love them but I'm having a real hard keeping up with the pace and length. It's discouraging. Any suggestions for improving endurance?

RE: I'm not Cathe, but . . .

Just keep at it, and you will develop great endurance! As Cathe says in Cardio Kicks, "If you could get it the first time it wouldn't be challenging, would it?" Do what you can, and just try to do a little bit more with each workout, going a little further, jumping a little higher, what have you. You can do it!

Also, you haven't mentioned which of Cathe's workouts you're doing. Are you doing a good mix of cardio AND muscle strengthening? If you aren't doing any focused strengthening, now is the time to start; if you are already strengthening, it may be time to up the weights, especially for leg work, because the stronger you are generally and legs in particular, the more power you'll be able to put into your cardio work, and the longer you'll be able to last.

Go for it, and keep at it!

RE: I'm not Cathe, but . . .

I'm using the Step Heat video which I think is tough but nowhere near as tough as her other tapes. I get pooped after about 30 minutes. I'm doing both strength training and cardio. I try to do three days of cardio and three days of strength training. I've never been a regular exerciser. However, I made a commitment to start the beginning of the year. My cardio has basically consisted of walking and elliptical trainer. I didn't feel this was adequate. I read some good reviews about Cathe's videos at the Video Fitness website. I recently won a lot of Cathe's videos from eBay. I also purchased her Pure Strength DVD which I love.

Hi Crystal,

I know how you feel. I was doing Rhythmic Step twice a week for about seven months before I was able to complete the whole workout, without modifications on a four inch step.

I was able to make it through the second aerobic segment (with modifications) after about 3 weeks, but it left me so darn tired and whipped that I had a hard time forcing myself to do the cool down and strech (obviously I was pushing myself a little to hard, we always demand so much more of ourselves than we would of others), all I wanted to do was plop down on the sofa.

After about seven months, I had just completed the second aerobic segment (without modifications) and realized, that yeah, I was feeling it, but I knew I could go on. I told myself I wouldn't force it, I would simply do what I could and just be happy that I had made some sort of progress. Believe it or not, I was actually able to finish the workout for the first time that day! O.k., I have to admit, I did push myself a little too much because during the Challenge segment I was dying, but you know how it is when you get so close to reaching a goal, sometimes you just throw caution to the wind and go for it.

But my long winded point is to just keep at it. It may not seem like it now, but your body is adapting and getting better with every workout!:)

Take care,

DeeDee

oh, wow, Seabush

Give yourself some time!!! :-wow
You just started Cathe--and do be doing 30 minutes of anything of Cathe's is Great!! Keep going...it'll come. Murph

Uh, Seabush, I don't think Step Heat is that much lower in intensity as Cathe's other tapes, maybe a couple of notches but, it's not a WHOLE lot easier than her later ones.

I started with PowerMax and I was running 30-40 minutes 3 or 4 times and week and the first few times this tape nearly killed me. I was stubborn and couldn't BELIEVE that a VIDEO TAPE workout could give me a good workout. Well, I was humbled to say the least.

Hang in there and GOOD FOR YOU for making a commitment to exercise!! I'm most impressed with that than anything else!
