Newbie needs help, please!

Hi all! I am in need of some ratation advice. I tried to pull up some rotations but the links weren't working for me. I am fairly new to Cathe, however I've been working out 5-6 days a week since June 2008. I've since lost 40 lbs (yay me!) and have another 20 to go before I reach my goal. I just seem to be stuck on this stubborn plateau and need a way to kick start it. I started out with Cathe's basic step a few months ago and have slowly been building my Cathe library. It is still *very* small compared to most of you, but I'm working on it! I am not advanced by any means, but I consider myself a solid intermediate. While I'd like to lose another 20 lbs, my ultimate goal is to be as physically fit as possible. I'm getting there with Cathe. My body, at 36 years old, is looking and feeling better than ever! My DH just can't get over it. :p

Would someone mind taking a look at my very modest DVD collection and suggest a rotation? Right now I just try to alternate certain videos and do whatever I'm in the mood to do. I only have about an hour a day before my children wake up in the morning. Also any suggestions for which video should be my next purchase? Here's what I have to work with now:

Butts and Guts
Muscle Max
Kick Max
Basic Step/Body Fusion
I also have the JM's 30 Day Shred and Ellen Barrett's Pilates

Thanks so much for any suggestions. I really enjoy reading this forum, and I've really been learning so much here!

Hi Nikkia2112:
I wanted to congratulate you on your weight loss so far! Way to go! I applaude you and your wonderful results... You should be very proud of yourself and this great accomplishment! :D how did you do it? Inquiring minds want to know... I have about 30 more to lose myself!

I'm a fairly new Cathe convert so don't have a LOT of rotation experience, however, if you look at the top of the "sticky" posts under this section, there should be a list posted by Shywolf that has most every Cathe rotation in one list of links that do work... I do know that one of the threads has links that do not work... try that one to see if they are any help :) they can be a little overwhelming though, when you don't have ANY of what is listed... I find a week here and there that I do have (or have few substitutions) and do them over and over!

I know for me, I try to do 3 cardio workouts and 2-3 total body/strength/circuit workouts each week.. and just try to alternate. If you go to the Cathe.com main page, there is a link for a complete list of all Cathe's workouts and what type of workout they are... ie: total body, circuit, upper body, lower body, etc... It's called Ultimate Guide and is listed on the left hand column towards the bottom of the top section (if that makes sense). I also hear you about not having a very big Cathe library to pick from! I am working on it as well, but it's a slow, expensive (albeit well worth every penny) venture! I try to keep my selections well rounded and not focus on one "type" of workout too much... but there are truthfully some that I stay away from since I don't enjoy them at all (mostly step)...

Anyway, again, congrats, keep up the good work and hopefully some of the more seasoned Cathe experts will have some guidance for you :)

Hi Dani,

Thanks so much for the advice and kind words. I have lost my weight by tracking my calories (between 1200-1400/day) and exercise. I lost the bulk of my weight by briskly walking and then working my way up to running. I have a very hilly neighborhood and pushed my jogging stroller with my toddler in tow. I used the Couch Potato to 5K method of training and really was shocked at how quickly I built my endurance. Once the weather turned cold I started looking for an alternative way to exercise. I have no gym membership and no room for a treadmill or elliptical, so I started reseraching and found out about Cathe. I've had many gym memberships over the years but have never loved exercise more than I do now working out a home with Cathe's DVDs.

I have tried many times over the years to lose weight, but I always failed. This time I made it a priority to exercise and I think that's why I've been successful. Next to my children and marriage, my exercise is priority number one. I used to make excuses why I couldn't workout. Now I get grumpy if I miss a workout and look forward to it. I like to see if today will be the day that I "get" something that's been too hard the day before.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling! Thanks so much for the help!

Your situation sounds very similar to mine. By tracking my food intake at MyFoodDiary.Com since last January, I have lost 30+ pounds and have 5-10 more to go. I found Cathe around the same time you did. My collection of DVDs is still modest as well, but I will offer whatever advice I can.

I also run (started using Couch to 5K and PodRunner Intervals). I was fortunate enough to be able to get a treadmill recently, so cardio isn't as much of a problem anymore. However, for cardio DVDs, I would recommend moving on to Low Max and Drill Max (cardio premix) next. I am just starting to learn Body Max 2. I got 45 minutes in to it yesterday and found myself completely lost with the step routine at that point. I find step aerobics difficult to master, so I usually give up and get on the treadmill and run!

For strength training, I started with Jari Love's Ripped DVDs and moved on to Cathe. I have Muscle Max, Pyramids Upper and Lower, Supersets and Push Pull. I chose each because they are full body or almost full body workouts. I, too, only have an hour or so in the morning before the kids need to get up for school.

I do 3 weight training days and 3 cardio days. On my "rest" day, I sometimes do Ellen Barrett's Fat Burning Fushion or yoga.

Keep up the good work.
