New User Needs Help

Help I am a Firm defector that has just purchased the Intensity Series on DVD. Last night I tried the IMAX2 and could barely get past the fourth interval. Is this normal for new users to Cathe's workouts? I have been doing the FIRM forever and have had no problem. But with Cathe's workout, I found the choreography to be really complex. I was constantly doing the wrong move. Obviously, after sinking all this money into the DVDs, I don't want to abandon them and I have been reading how her workouts really can help you break out of your plateau, which I need desparately to do. To all of you long-timers - please send any suggestions you may have on how I can make it through this introductory phase. Thanks a bunch!:D

Hi!

Yes, Cathe's choreography can be complex, but you will get it. Her new videos don't really break the moves down like some of her older videos. I've been doing Cathe since around 1995 and my first video of hers was StepMax (a little more basic). Even now it can take me 3 times going through the workout to absolutely nail every move. So, don't worry, you will get there, and you are not the only one!

You could try focusing on sections at a time. Just be persistant because it is so worth it! Imax 2 is my current favorite. So much fun!

Just try not to get frustrated and maybe try Bootcamp. That doesn't have any step aerobics in it. It is just basic (high intensity) moves that are repeated for a minute.

Hi D! I'm a former Firmie myself, and now that I've found Cathe, I hardly ever go back. I know exactly how you're feeling. I thought I was in pretty good shape and that some new workouts would be no problem. Surprise! In actuality, you are probably in really good shape. The Firm is some good stuff. However, any new type of workout will hit you in a new way, and your body (and mind) will take time to adjust. My husband, who can bike 35 miles of hills with no problem has some trouble with a three-and-a-half mile run. All cardio is not created equally. Give yourself some break-in time and don't give up. You will pick up the choreography, though it may take a few tries. Once you do, though, you'll be glad you did, and you'll be loving the new workouts. Keep trying Imax 2, adding just a little bit each time. If you feel like you're sacrificing your workout time, pop Imax in and do it until you feel you can't go any further, then switch over to the Firm for the remainder of your designated workout time. Add a bit more Imax and a bit less Firm each time, and soon you'll be an all-Cathe girl, too! Good luck!
