New Toys....the little things make me so happy! :-)

Went shopping in Ottawa (bigger city than I live in) with my 13 year old daughter Faith yesterday. OMG, what a great day...got her a gorgeous grad dress for grade 8...classic Chinese dress in coral. I made her suffer through a trip to the fitness depot where I acquired a 9# body bar, 12kilo kettlebell, new dumbells and teeny little plates to help me micro load for STS (was disappointed that they didn't carry platemates but the hunt for them continues).
I've had Kimberley Spreen's Absolute Kickboxing since it's release but couldn't do the combat intervals with no bodybar...did it this morning and loved it!!! Did some hip thrusts and figure 8's with the kettlebell and *whew*, HOLY HAMSTRINGS!!! :) Got some cool stuff at IKEA too! I ♥ my new toys!! :7
Thanks for letting me share my excitement...other folks just don't get it.;-)

Sounds like fun. SO what did you get at IKEA? That is only my most favorite place in the world!

I got a bunch of little stuff... a whack of scented tea lights, a spice rack, lazy susan for the kitchen table, fun plastic cutlery for our picnic/beach basket, a hand held shredder, a throw rug for in front of the kitchen sink, a kitchen brush for dishes, ginger cookies, sesame rusk and assorted other yummy groceries...I got out of their for less than $75...now THAT'S a first :) I'm sure when my eldest daughter goes to university in the fall we'll be in for a much more expensive IKEA run :)

Sharing Your Toy Joy!!!!

Laurie:

I am sharing your toy joy today. :) I have a pair of slanted risers and plenty of traditional risers. I also have pairs of weights up through 25 pounds, and I can take those to 30 pounds with PlateMates. I wanted a heavier single for rows but do not have room to store the big and bulky heavy weights. I decided to go with the handles that are like baby barbells. I found a pair at Sports Authority today after church with 30 pounds of chrome and rubber plates (four 5-pound plates and four 2½-pound plates). The rubber is just around the edges, so PlateMates will still work with them. The handles alone sell for $19.99. The last set in stock was on clearance. The storage case was damaged. The weights are fine with no scratches or anything. The manager gave me the whole set for $9.99! :) Even with the sale at Target on Reebok plates, I would pay more than that for 30 pounds of plates. I bought a set at Sears last night and was not happy with the quality, so I returned for the nicer and more expensive set at Sports Authority. The handles have a nice rubber grip and can hold up to 80 pounds of plates. I do not think I will be rowing 80 pounds with one arm! ;-) The set retails for $60.00, so I am very happy with my find! Plates are easier for me to store, and I can use them on my barbell too. All I need is an STS pull-up tower and the DVDs! I may need to buy a Troy Lite bar too after I figure out how much weight my FIRM barbell can handle.

Joy, joy, joy! :7 I am so happy today. :) I do not know why I am so excited. I am a cardio queen after all. ;-) LOL! :7

Blessings,
Heather B.

I know what you mean about new toys!
I was thinking of starting a thread on the same subject.

I just got an adjustable bench from Amazon.com (7 levels, including decline, flat, incline and vertical) and unpacked and used it for the first time yesterday. How could I ever have thought that the step was an acceptable alternative to an actual bench? LOL!

Even just doing some YTWLI shoulder moves on it was great. I loves my new bench! It will make all my weight workouts more effective.

And on QVC yesterday, the special value was a sleep number bed. I've been needing a new bed for a while (I've extended the life of my....gulp...20-year-old!...futon a bit by buying a mattress topper for it, but I cringe when I think of how much dust-mite 'stuff' there might be trapped in it. When I saw how the bed was delivered in small, easy-to-handle parts, I was sold (especially with 5 easy-pay-payments). I want my new bed now!

Hooray for everyone's new toys! I've used my new Troy Lite three times now, and just love it! It is so wonderful and easy to use, esp. when compared to my old barbell.

It really is fantastic that we can share our love of fitness (and other) toys and that everyone here on the forum understands!:)

I'm happy for you! It's so much fun to have new things to play with...or a new way to play with old things, for that matter!

I suppose guys get this excited over tools, computer equipment, etc. If I drag my husband or daughter into the fitness department I can feel them oozing boredom. This I do not understand!

Have fun with your goodies :)

My family thinks I am a nut case, because I keep buying more workout DVDs and whenever I mention that I need this equipment or that, they look at me like I have just sprouted some horns.

For the last month, my sister has been telling her friends how crazy I am that I was so giddy about meeting Amy Bento in person. (It was really exciting BTW. She is really sweet). I mean those of you who have gone on Roadtrip understand how exciting it is to meet and workout with your hero right? (Another goal of mine is to meet Cathe in person).

Back to the equipment portion of this post... I want some kettlebells, but since Cathe is supposed to be coming out with a combo version of kettlebell and med ball, I am waiting impatiently for that bit of news.

stuff I need:
kettlebells
slanted raisers
squat rack ( I had one, but my ex took it :( )
and a big house so I can have my own gym, so I can invite friends and family over to workout and train together.
