New to Cathe

Hi. I just stumbled onto this forum having done a Google search about P90X. I am on week 8 of P90X and am looking forward to what I will do once the 90 days are done. I have never heard of Cathe before and am seeking out suggestions for her BEST workouts. I do not want to get 20 different dvds only to find out I can't stand them. So, what would be the best way to get introduced to her and get A REALLY, REALLY TOUGH workout. I do not want to lose all of the gains I have made on P90X but the 7 days a week over one hour day thing is killing me with my work and kid schedule! Plus, do I really need to get a step? It just reminds me of my workout days in the 80's :)

Also, I just have to say after reading another thread comparing P90x to a new Cathe workout that I am amazed at the people who say that the P90X leg workouts are weak! The plyox gets me every time (my heart rate up my legs burning)! And the one legged wall stands? Tough! You all must have legs of steel for it to be easy!!

Hi Irish!

Welcome to the forum. I'm also finishing up P90X (my second round). Tony and Cathe are different but they both offer great, tough, effective workouts. Most of Cathe's workouts are intense. Depending on what you want, here's what I suggest:

For Endurance - Muscle Endurance, Power Hour (total body workouts)
For Heavy Lifting - Slow & Heavy (splits)
For Heavy and Endurance - Gym Styles (splits), Muscle Max (total body), or Four Day Split.

Or you might want to wait and get STS which is coming out in the next few months (check out STS forum at the top). These are periodization workouts which go from endurance to very heavy lifting over a 3-6 month period. Check out the blog and you can see some of the exercises for STS.

For really tough cardio workouts, I suggest any of the IMAXes. Interval Max is on the Rhythmic Step DVD and also has Maximum Intensity Cardio which is really intense cardio (it has hi/lo and step - the hi/lo is much more intense). IMAX 2 is the on the same DVD as Cardio & Weights or you can get IMAX 3 (which I find the most intense of the 3) on its own.

If you don't want step, I would suggest Kick, Punch & Crunch or Kick Max. Kick, Punch & Crunch is on the same DVD as Legs & Glutes which is an awesome leg workout and gives you great premixes some of which combine kickboxing and leg work. Four Day Split has a great kickboxing workout and a boot camp style workout. But there are also two step workouts. I know you're not crazy for step but these were a couple of Cathe's best step routines and the rest of the workouts on these 2 DVDs were great so I would still consider it. There are also plenty of premixes to choose from (23 in all).

I would definitely check out the video clips which will give you a pretty good idea of what you're getting yourself into.

I also think the leg squats are tough but they have gotten easier for me in my 2nd round.

HTH.

Thank you very much for the advice. I may dust off my old step, we'll see. I saw Imax 3 on Ebay so I may just get that. I am also considering the 4 day split as it seems like that would help me build a "program" once P90x is done. I am thinking the 4 day plus alternating some of the "funner" P90x workouts (plyo, yoga and core synergistics) into the sequence would probably make a good program. I also want to keep up with the push ups and pullups (just doing some every other or every 3 days) because I don't want to "lose" them when I stop P90x.

also- this is nagging me- how do you pronounce Cathe? Is it like Kathy?
