New to Cathe

Hi EVERYBODY,

My name is Ali, I live in NYC, have 2 kids (10 and 2) and I workout at home. I've done a lot of Beachbody workouts,Billy Blanks and currently Core Secrets(YAWN!!!). I've been looking for something new and challenging and discovered Cathe over at collagevideo. She seems pretty intense and that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm also looking for a great support system going through the same thing that I am.

I'm looking at the HardCore Series, BodyBlast Series and the Intensity Series. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need to lose about 15LB's and I want to tone up my arms, see my abs again and reduce the overall circumference of my thighs (UGH!)a butt lift would be nice too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi and Welcome! I have all three of those series and love them all so it's always hard for me to recommend just one. I guess based on what you're saying my gut tells me to recommend the Intensity series first. But maybe you could provide a little more information like what kind of cardio you do and/or like? And are you basically looking for toning or are you looking for more strength? Which Beachbody's have you done?

Jo

Hi Jo,
Thanks for getting back to me. My gut was also saying the Intensity Series first. Lately I've been doing Turbo Jam for Cardio, I'll combine 2 workouts for a total of 1 hour on my cardio days and on my strength days I'll just add a 20 min cardio session of TJ. I also like to walk, rollerblade and bike. My knees aren't too good anymore for running ;( .

I would say that I want my arms to look like I have muscles in them, definitions in the abs, tighter butt, etc. so I don't know if that means I'm looking for toning or strength. I'd like to look ripped, but not big ya know.

I started my beachbody workouts with Slim in 6,SlimSeries, Power Half Hour, then I did Billy's Bootcamp, P90X(doubles), and Turbo Jam. Did a little bit of Jillian's (from the Biggest Loser) workout, but really didn't care for it. Then I did Billy's Bootcamp Elite. Now I'm doing a combination of Core Secrets and Turbo Jam, but the Core Secrets is so not the challenge that I thought it would be and I will most likely be cutting my 8 week program short, because I do not see dramatic results in the future.

I'm going to get my certification to be a Turbo Kick instructor, so I will soon be looking for a club to teach some classes in and I want people to be motivated and inspired by the way that I look, but I'm not there yet. It really looks like Cathe has the workouts that will put me in the place that I want to be.

Your input and any others are greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Ali

Oh excellent, you've done lots of stuff! I would still recommend the Intensity series first and I would also recommend you buy Kick Punch and Crunch from Body Blast - it's a great aerobic kickboxing workout! It also has Legs & Glutes on that DVD. If you can only buy one series at a time, I would buy them in this order:

Intensity's
Hardcore
BodyBlast

They are all great but I'm just going by what you said and I'm sure others will give you different opinions. Of course if you could, I would suggest buying them all! I love the variety all these workouts give. Right now I'm dong a rotation that uses workouts from all three so see how hard it is to just pick one? :) :)

Let me know what you end up buying!

I just ordered the Intensity Series w/ Terminator. I'm so excited, I feel like a kid waiting to open X-mas gifts. Do you know about how long it takes to receive the videos via FREE UPS shipping?

I think the Intensity Series is a great choice, but I second the motion for KPC/L&G and Step Blast/Step Jump Pump. The premixes on the Body Blast series are unparalled, which means that the workouts get mixed up in any number of ways. Those are the two I'd go for next.

Good luck!

Yeah! I hope you love these workouts as so many others of us do (I'm sure you will!)! The Intensity Series is wonderful!

For me shipping usually takes about a week as they are on the east coast and I am on the west coast. If you live closer it should definitely be less then that. :)

I'm so excited. My Intensity Series came today. That was super fast. I ordered on Sunday night. I'm going to start on Monday. YIPEEE!I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Hi Ali,

I'm new to Cathe's workouts too, but like you have done both Core Secrets and Billy Blank's workouts. I really like an intense workout, and feel like I've finally found that w/ Cathe. It's like being in a great healthclub class, IMO.

So far I just have Low Max, but I am totally loving it. I also have Muscle Max, but have only done the ab portion, so can't say to much, except that the ab w/o was awesome!

Hope you love Cathe too!

Cheers,
Stephanie

I previewed my workouts today. These are no joke. I don't feel comfortable with the recommended rotation for the Intensity Series. It seems like there is not enough cardio for me, and weights almost everyday. I like to do cardio everyday and weight train 3x week.

Here's what I worked out:

Monday-Cardio/Weights,Turbo Jam 20 minute workout
Tuesday-Imax2
Wednesday-Bootcamp,Turbo Jam 20
Thursday-Imax2
Friday-Cardio/Weights,Turbo Jam 20
Saturday-Imax2

I think I'll have to work my way up to The Pyramids Upper/Lower and Muscle Endurance, and the Terminator... I don't think I'm ready for those yet.

Does anyone have an opinion on this rotation or any recommendations?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Cathe! I don't really follow any of the recommended rotations. I have almost all of Cathe's workouts (it's an addiction, I swear) and I rotate them with my running. I also substitute in the elliptical machine here and there.

Your rotation seems like a good start, but Imax 2 is tough. I'm not sure you want to do it three times a week. You might want to check out Step Blast and Rhythmic Step -- they are still really good workouts but are more "pure" step without the super high-impact intervals.

Also, I don't know if you have Fit TV available, but if you do, Cathe's workouts are featured on there. They are shortened for broadcast, but it's a good way to see if you like some of her other workouts before you buy the DVD.

Hi, I live upstate with 2 little boys (almost 4, and 21 months). I started out with Slim in Six too.. I did get good results, lost about 20lbs, but it got boring. I can't stand doing the same thing everyday. I love Cathe. I have TiVo'd about 22 of her workouts off of Fit TV!!
I still need the most work on my abs, and arms too, so anything that works for you, I would love to hear it. Having those babies, you know. Love them more then anything, but they left my belly like jelly!
I like to do cardio alot, for fat burn and I love step. I am really starting to love the weight lifting also.
