new to Cathe and need recommendations

I have been hearing great things about Cathe's workouts. I am just restarting my exercise routine and have about 15-20 pounds to lose. I would love some suggestions about the first few tapes to get. I have been using Kathy Smith's tape (both aerobic and weights) and am getting bored. I have also heard great things about the FIRM's tapes. Someone suggested step jam from Cathe. the step tapes I have been doing have been good but when I do TOO much jumping, I start hurting my many various ailments (knee, lower back and a neuroma on my foot). Any suggestions would be great - I like doing the choreographied stuff but need good cuing or just not TOO complicated. Thanks, sANDY

Hi Sandy and welcome. I have been doing Cathe for about a year now. I started out with the How to Get in Shape for your Wedding (don't mind the title). It is considered her easiest tape as far as chorography. It has approx 45 minutes of cardio and then 45 minutes of weight training. It is a good introduction to her. I then went on to Step Heat and Mega Step Blast. She repeats the patterns a lot in these and you will get the steps, just give yourself some time. I myself have bad knees and have to modify anything with jumps. Her tapes are easy to modify if you need to. Her cueing is impecable. Just remember that you are an exact mirror image of her on the TV. When learning a new tape, I usually watch it first, sometimes I put the more difficult parts in slow motion so that I can really see what's going on. I have almost all of her tapes now. I'm not sure where you're at with weight training, but any of her weight tapes are great and you can always use lighter weights if you have to. Good luck. Mary

thanks. The title really didn't appeal to me (given I have been married for 18 years and have no intention of doing it again!!!) but I read the description and it sounded great so I bought it and will start with that. Right now, I have done something to my lower back so I am having to modify everything but in the mean time, even if it is too much stress on my back, I can learn the moves and modify it. Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward to getting started. Sandy

Hi! I just wanted to mention that I have problems in the same areas of the body as you, and I do Cathe tapes (modified) quite a lot. I usually do not use the step, and I must say that my back and knees feel so much better since starting that modification last year. I was really feeling those areas when I was using a step and including jumps, and now that I do my workouts on the floor and modify a lot of the impact out, I feel much healthier...
Good luck!
Wendy :)

Hi Sandy, like I said, you have to ignore the title. It was a little hard for me to buy because I had just cancelled a wedding 6 months before I bought it. Some people don't like it, but it does introduce you to her stepping and is a little slower. There is not a lot of wedding stuff in it, I don't even hear it any more. It is actually a bargain because you are getting cardio and weight training in one tape. Have fun, keep us posted on how you do. Have a great day, off to work out myself and go to work. Mary
