First post here...hello! Great board!

I'm new to Cathe...I've actually never done any of her workouts, but after reading, I know that they are what I'm looking for. I've been doing Jari Love since July '07, and love them, but am not really getting any definition. Tone, sort of. In shape, feel good, yes. I'm unsure as to which DVD's to purchase...I'm considering the following (I hope I get the names right!):

4DS
Gym Styles (all three)
Muscle Max
Core Max

Essentially, I'm 98% that I'm going to purchase the Core Max, no matter what. I was going to get all of the above, but then thought I should start with one 'set', either the 4DS, or the GS & MM.

Which do you suggest I start with? I have an hour (or so) a day before the kiddos wake up to get my workout in (I love to workout in the mornings, when it's quiet!).

Thanks!

Welcome to Catheland!

All of the ones you picked are great. If you're looking for any sort of cardio, I would say 4DS which has it all - cardio, strength and 2 great ab routines and all of the routines are pretty much an hour or less but I think one of them is about 71 minutes. If you just want strength, I would tell you to get Gym Styles and Core Max. Muscle Max is a total body workout. If you get the Gym Styles, I don't think you need that right away since GS is a 3 day split. But having said that, Muscle Max is a great workout that has a great ab routine and is a must have in your collection IMO.

I'm sorry if I sound dumm. But does a 3 day split mean you do the workout 3 times per week? Thanks!

Hi ShortSkirts and Lulu,

Welcome to the forums! Don't worry, lulu -- there's no such thing as a dumb question!

A three-day split means that you're lifting weights three times a week, and on each one of those three days, you're lifting for different body parts. You only end up working each muscle group one time a week, but during that one time, you lift as heavy as you can, and then give that muscle group a whole week to rest so that it can grow stronger and get bigger. For instance, with the GS series, you could do a rotation like this:

Day 1 GS Back, Shoulders, Biceps
Day 2 Cardio
Day 3 GS Legs
Day 4 Cardio
Day 5 GS Chest and Triceps
with some rest days thrown in there

With a four-day split, the weight work is divided up into four days. When I do Cathe's 4DS series, I usually add in one extra day of cardio.

Hope this helps!:)
