New Runners April 2010

Jane, your workouts always sound great. What are bear crawls? I need to get a gym boss and start doing some new kb workouts but I do love Providence.

Cindi, that's great. I love King Arthur flour and its so neat that you organized that.

Alisha, how are you doing? Sugar really is an addiction isn't it? I have gotten back in to having to have my little piece of chocolate at night. It's not enough to cause a problem but you better get out of the way if I can't find my chocolate either.

Tricia, how are you doing?

I did Bum Bum Live followed by High and Tight with bands and weights this morning. It might have been overkill. I'm feeling it in my hips, butt, knee (I have one knee that gets a little tweaky on certain moves and I should have modified but I didn't). Oh well. I'm trying to stretch more too. Tonight I teach class until 9 pm so that will be all for me today.

Lisa

Ugh - Bear Crawls kill my back. We used to do them in Kung Fu class all the time. Teacher let me sub out crab walks instead. We used to do these races with all kinds of crawls/walks/forms of torture. :)

bear crawl
duck walk
crab walk - forward and backward
snake walk
Frog jumps
forward rolls

Cindi - That's wonderful about KA! I'm jealous! I'd love to get classes from someone who knows what they're doing. If only to get more of the feel of the dough at different stages so I know if I'm gauging it right.

Alisha - I'm glad you enjoyed the movie! I'm waiting for it on Netflix!

Jane - My legs are still sore! LOL! I have plyo legs tomorrow, too! Ack! They will probably recover by my next run on Saturday! I'm doing more stretching now that I workout in the a.m., so that's good. I made sure to get a good stretch today!

Lisa - Hi! You go with your Bum Bum! LOL! I just had to say that!

All is well! DH has a job interview on Thursday. It's not a great job, nor in his field and the salary is crappy, but, hey, it's the only interview he's gotten so far. He's kind of torn as to whether he wants to get an offer or not because it really won't help him get his full CFA and he'll still have to pay for the train. So, we'll see!

Hi ladies! Last night was Zumba and weights. Once a week I'm doing a strength workout from Runner's World that is running specific (http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-263-266-7522-0,00.html#) I do both the A and B workouts in one session which takes about an hour with some warm up and cool down time.

I'm going to try to run/walk 4 miles today. For the past 3 days, I have felt no stiffness in my heel when I get up in the morning. That hasn't happened since last fall. So keep your fingers crossed.

Tricia - even if it's not the job he wants, it's still good to go on interviews and a good sign that he GOT an interview. Things are picking up in our business too so I feel like the economy is slowly improving.

Good morning ladies,
This morning I did Sculpt and walked 2 miles with the pups. You know how you workout for a while and see no change and then it seems like it comes all at once? That's how I'm feeling right now, my butt is literally looking better each week. I'm very excited. All the step ups and stationary lunges in the world didn't do anything to reshape my butt (it got firmer yes, shapelier no). As much as I like B&G, Gym Style Legs, and PLB they didn't give me these results.

I am so excited its ridiculous. My saddlebags are almost gone too and everything is definitely lifted and less dimply. My cellulite is almost gone and honestly my diet and sleep schedule haven't helped at all. I actually trotted over to the mirror to look at it this morning ; usually I avoid accidently glancing my rearview in the mirror at all. So yes, I'm feeling happy with BBL. I still don't love Leandro but I'll deal with his weird little aura if it gets me these results. I'm also figuring out that moves that involve multiple joints (KBs, BBL) instead of isolating one muscle at a time seem to have a much bigger impact for my body.

Now I will stop ranting and get on with things :D.

Cindi ~ How was Zumba? I read the article on strength training in Runner's World this month and am glad they are starting to put so much emphasis on crosstraining and strength conditioning.

Jane ~ I don't need a Gym Boss but somehow gadgets and new clothes help motivate me. I really want a Gym Boss even though I know I could do the same thing with a timer or just watching the clock for that matter. Maybe I'll try the Dirty Thirty later in the week for an UB day. Thanks for the clip! We used to call that a camel walk in gym but I guess a bear crawl sounds a little more inspiring.

Tricia ~ Congrats to your husband on the interview! Even if they offer him the job, he doesn't have to take it and the experience is great anyway - just getting back in the swing of things. I've interviewed for, been offered and rejected several jobs - I think of it like dating. We're both checking each other out and its okay to say no if it doesn't work but if you don't try, you'll never know if it would have worked.

Hi Alisha!

Lisa

Hi All,

I'm going for a 3 mile run this evening. Wow...that workout was tough yesterday. Those bear crawls are brutal. My shoulders and wrists were really sore last night. I feel better today though.

Lisa ~ I'm glad you are seeing results with BBL!!! I'm very happy that it is working for you! The Gymboss is one of the best pieces of equipment that I ever bought and for $20 you can't go wrong. It's nice when you are doing circuits or intervals.

Cindi ~ Thanks for posting strength workout from Runner's World. I'm printing it out for future use. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your heel is finally healed!

Tricia ~ I hope the interview works out for your husband, if for the simple fact that he got a call back. You never know what this will lead to. I once got a call from a company I never applied to. Apparently the HR person that the company I applied to gave my resume to another HR person at a different company. I didn't get the job (didn't want it) but my point being you never know what door will open because of it.

Hi Alisha!!

Mom is having her first chemo treatment today. I dropped her off and stayed for a little bit but mom kicked me out so she could sleep. I'm at work now and will go back and pick her up in a couple of hours. The nurse said the only side effect (aside from hair loss) should be fatigue. They give you meds for nausea. She has to have a port put in next week so the adventure continues!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Jane - hoping your mom's treatment goes as well as it can. The runner's world workout I posted is more focused on the back of the body and core. It is really geared to help with running and to balance out your body if you are runner. I like that. It's also easy on the legs which works for me - I'm finding the spin classes are improving my leg strength and endurance. I'm curious to hear what you all think about it.

Lisa - Zumba was good last night. Not very challenging but it was my 'add on' cardio anyway. She was adding in some new songs and we went a little easy last night.

Cindi ~ I'm glad to hear that your spinning class is improving your leg strength and endurance. I wanted to incorporate some spinning or biking into my workouts to help out my legs. Eventually I would like to get a bike but in the short term I think I might check out my local gym.

I printed out the Runner's World workouts and will try to incorporate those exercises into my rotation. Thanks!

Wow! So much going on for everyone! That's great!

Jane - I hope your mom's treatment went smoothly and she's feeling okay. Enjoy your 3 miles tonight!

Cindi - How did your heel feel after your 4 miles? I"m going to look into that Runner's World workout, too!

Lisa - How exciting that you're seeing just the results you were looking for with BBL! You go right on and rant away! It sounds like it's worth the money! I hate when I get something and it doesn't do what it's supposed to! I added that to my wish list the last time you said it was good. Hm, I just hope I can tolerate the weirdo! LOL!

Hi Alisha! Hope all is well!

DH's job interview is a quandry. What we are more concerned with at this point is that if it's just not right and he turns it down, what will RI unemployment do? Can they use that to stop or not extend his payments? That's what we can't afford - is to lose that bit of money from unemployment if he decides not to take the job. This is all assuming they'll even offer it to him. He is waaaay over-qualified for it! It's a customer service position after all. Well, I guess there's no worrying about all that unless and/or until we get that far.

Thanks for all your support!

Can you see me??? I'm jumping up and down with happiness!!! 4-pain free miles for me tonight. :)

And on a side note - I found this dangerous podcast called the sporkful. I've learned from them a few bad-for-you recipes that are terribly good! Made my son an egg and cheese sandwich tonight, grilled cheese style. Basically I make a small egg and cheese omelet and put it in a sandwich and cook it like a grilled cheese. And for myself - grilled honey and peanut butter sandwich - dinner of champions. ;)

Congratulations Cindi! I know you've been through a lot with your heel! I hope you stay pain free for a long time to come!

What's that podcast again? (ha, ha, ha!) Like I need to hear about more bad foods! The grilled PB&H sandwich sounds delicious!

Thats AWESOME!

Today is some sort of step workout, I haven't picked one out yet. I'm leaning towards STS Athletic Step.

Hi Everybody, I know I've been delinquent in the personals, its not that I don't care, I'm just eyeball deep in writing a book. (unfortunately, I'm not being paid but oh well!) and I'm also working on a video project that I must get edited and out the door (not real entertaining or thrilling, just surveillance.)

Alisha

Cindi ~ I am jumping up and down with happiness too! Seriously...I just did about 5 happy jumps in my office just for you!!! Congrats!! Oh my...that egg and cheese grilled sandwich sounds heavenly!!

Alisha ~ Have fun with the step workout! Good luck on all your projects! In my younger days, I wrote 3 books but they were never published. I enjoyed the process though.

Tricia ~ I hope everything works out for your DH. I have never been on unemployment so I don't know how it works.

I'm taking a rest day today because of my race on Friday night. Mom's first chemo went really well. No signs of side effects yet. If all flows well with her treatment, she will be finished in September.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi guys,
This morning I did CC V4 at the orchard with the pups.

Jane ~ Glad things went well with your mom - hope they stay on track.

Alisha ~ Good luck with your video/book.

Cindi ~ So happy your heel is doing well!

Tricia ~ Hi!

Lisa

Hi guys, I'm taking a few minutes before I have to head out the door. The sporkful is so funny but might be a gate way drug to grilled cheese and milk shake!

Jane- I hope your Mom feels good throughout her treatment, sending healing vibes her way!

Alisha - No worries! We know you're around! A book, huh? Do we get the first copies off the presses? That's so exciting! I wish I could write, but I wouldn't even know where to start!

P.S. I tried to download sporkful this morning and there was an error - a sign maybe? LOL! I'm going to try it again. Nothing to worry about with me and the grilled cheese as I totally despise cheese!

Jane - Good to know the first treatment went well! I hope she continues to have no side effects! Run like the wind this weekend!

Lisa - CC 4! Good for you! Not sure which one I'll do this weekend yet, but I'll be squeezing one in on Saturday, hopefully early, since I'll be working on baking bread again too!

Have a terrific night everyone! We'll be in the 70s tomorrow and 80s on Saturday and Sunday! YIPPEE! I can't wait!

!

If I ever finish it you can get an Ebook! I'm going on a hike this morning. I have a mild milk allergy so I can't really do the cheese thing otherwise I look like a raccoon! Shiners, like I got in a fight. Or forgot to sleep three nights in a row.

Hi ladies - rest day for me yesterday. Went shopping with a couple of friends. Found some cute pants at Lucy on sale. :) We walked around for at least 2 hours and my foot felt totally normal. So far so good!

I will workout later today.

Alisha - what's the book about? I once thought I could write a book, but then thought again.

Thanks everyone for the shared joy over my painless run!

Jane - I'm so glad your mom did ok with the first treatment. One treatment at a time and she'll be done before you know it.

Lisa - CC at an orchard with dogs - I can't think of anything better unless you had chocolate fondue afterwards. :)

Tricia - I can't believe you despise cheese. I don't think I could live without it. I listened to a past episode yesterday about popcorn - they were wrong about just about everything they said. Popcorn from the stove top (white popcorn made in a whirlypop) is the best popcorn hands down. Salt and pepper is my topping of choice. And they didn't even mention Chicago mix popcorn (cheese corn mixed with caramel corn). They are from NY I think so maybe they just don't know of these things. Here in the midwest, you can get some great popcorn varieties.

Anyway...Today is the last day of April - hard to believe. So I will see you all again in May!

Have great weekends everyone!
