New Runners April 2010

Cindi - Thanks for recommendation. I was not looking forward to wear a belt. I will check it out.

BTW...my friend and fellow high school track teammate is running Boston this morning. I just checked and her 5K time was 27:23. Right now she is doing a 8 1/2 minute mile. I'm so proud of her!

Here is my workout for today.

Do intervals of 40 seconds of work/20 seconds of rest for 5 rounds. Take a 1 minute rest between rounds.

Swings
Pull ups
Jump Rope
Planks
Kettlebell Figure 8
Mr. Spectacular

Hope everyone has a great day!

Jane - Post her final time when you have it! I've been checking the live twitter feeds off and on! How exciting for her!

That's a great time. The winning times are just unbelievable to me.

Spin class last night and some abs work.

Hi everyone!

Hi Everybody!

I did a yoga disc this morning with Shiva Rae, it was fun. I have 4DS Kick boxing planned for later today. I have been working on some spiritual stuff and trying not to fall face first into a plate of almost anything.:p

Alisha

Hi ladies,
Friday I drove to Hatteras - no workout. Saturday I did High and Tight from BBL with my ankle weights. I also did abs and then a horse back ride. Sunday I went for a fun ride and didn't workout per se but got a workout :D if you know what I mean. Monday I drove back - no workout.

This morning I jumped back on the wagon with PUB and CC V2 (outside). I did amazingly well on PUB. I was afraid I might have lost some UB strength doing just BBL and the occasionally KB workout for the past month. It wasn't the case though. I did PUB with my usual weight and felt as good as ever. In fact, I have developed better definition in my UB while doing BBL and got nice compliments over the weekend about how 'cut' I looked. It was neat. A lot of people complained that BBL didn't have enough UB work and I really didn't expect to actually like what it did for my UB. I have a tendency to build volume but not definition easily when lifting with Cathe so my BBL UB results were a nice surprise.

I'm so behind on personals that I won't even try to catch up so ~ Hi everyone!

Hi!

I'm not sure what I'm doing tonight. I'm stopping off at my mom's on the way home so I'm probably just going to do some kettlebell work when I get home.

Lisa ~ Congrats on the definition in your upper body. It's always nice when people notice that. Sounds like your trip to Hatteras was nice.

Tricia ~ I will let my friend know. We ran the 400 meters in high school track (ok...back then it was called the 440 yard dash) but she was the better runner. I finished last most of the time.

Alisha ~ Have fun with 4DS Kickbox. That's a fun one!

Hi Cindi!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Everyone!

On lunch break! I know what you mean about the leader times in the BM! Sheesh! That's like warp speed! Amazing!

I find it so interesting all the different routines and workouts that we all do and never overlap! I don't know, it just kinda hit me. Cool!

Well, I "did" Rhythmic Step this morning - sort of! I've done it before, it's just been a while. I would say it kicked my butt, but I hardly got much of it done! I kept getting lost in the choreography and that just doesn't usually happen to me. I guess I just wasn't awake enough to focus properly! Needless to say, I was looking forward to a great workout and got a mediocre one! It really made me mad this morning, but by 9:30 this morning I was telling the girls and laughing about it! I spent more time running around the step trying to keep up than anything else! LOL! Oh well, some mornings my brain must just need a little more sleep! I get another go at it next Tuesday, so I should do better! I love this workout!

I was going to either take the pups for a walk after work to make up for it or go for a CC run, but it's clouded up and there've been some sprinkles, so I don't know. I'll have to see what it's doing when I get off.

Lisa - I'm glad you're seeing positive results from BBL! It must feel good to get the compliments!

Alisha - 4DS Kickbox is another one of my faves! Enjoy!

Jane - Whatever you do, I'm sure it's going to be awesome!

Cindi - You go with your spin! Have a great afternoon!

Well, time to head back to the office - ugh - somebody's gotta pay the bills!

Good Morning!

Well I didn't workout yesterday. I got home late from mom's, it was raining and yadda, yadda, yadda...I didn't do it! :)

Tonight I'm going for a 4 mile run. It will be my last workout this week as I have my 10K race on Saturday morning.

Tricia ~ I am so bad at step. I just don't do it because I have no patience to learn the steps. I can do athletic step workouts like Drill Max but that's all I can do. At least you gave it a go and got a laugh out of it. That is most important.

It's fun that we all do different workouts. I wish I had more time to try more stuff. I do want to get a bike at some point because I know that it will help my legs. My sister and I were talking about getting one. I'd like to try a dualthon at some point.

Alisha ~ Have fun with HIS.

Waving hello to Cindi and Lisa!

Hi ladies,
This morning I did PLB and subbed in some BBL moves during the floorwork portion - now that was a workout! I'm going to walk the dogs this afternoon.

Jane ~ I'm with you on step only I can't do things like Drill Max either. I am totally incompetent at choreography and have a deep seated dislike for anything plyometric to boot.

Alisha ~ Enjoy HIS.

Tricia ~ At least you were trying! I have long since given up. Cathe's most basic step dvd came with my step and I decided I would learn how to step. I was working along with it, struggling through, stopping and rewinding trying to learn the steps. I plugged along feeling very virtuous and determined until about 20 minutes into my struggle when Cathe said, "Okay, now that we're all warmed up let's start our workout!". I turned the d*mn thing off and have been trying to give the dvd away ever since but its too basic for any of my workout friends to want it.

Hi Cindi!

Hi ladies! last night I did some stationary bike, eliptical and weights. Tonight is spin and core.

Alisha - Hopefully you didn't fall into that plate yesterday! :)

Lisa - maybe bbl burned off some fat layer so you UB definition could shine through. Do you like the bbl workouts?

Tricia - Rythmic Step is one of my favorite Cathe workouts but I have to really concentrate to get it. I don't think I could do it in the morning! I chuckle sometimes that this is a running check in but many times we are doing anything but running. I like to see what everyone is doing. If we were checking in with mileage everyday it wouldn't be nearly as interesting.

Jane - I think a duathlon would be fun too but I'm pretty insecure on the bike. Maybe someday...:)

I think that's everyone! Have a great day.

Cindi ~ Actually my weight and body fat remained consistent. I think I have a tendency to retain water when I'm doing lower rep/higher weight lifting and so my muscles tend to be rounder and poufier - for lack of a better description. I find Leandro a little annoying but I don't have any dread factor with the BBL workouts. They are relatively short (between 20-50 minutes) and just seem easier than Cathe workouts so they are easy to do even if I don't feel like working out. The results have definitely been worth it and now I just smile when Leandro says something that sounds stupid. I'm excited to do High and Tight tomorrow or the next day.

Jane - I hope you have a good run tonight! I'm very excited for you on your 10K this Saturday! I'll be checking for your great descriptive narrative on Saturday afternoon! (Yes, I'm expecting you to jump right on and tell us all about it afterwards! LOL!) Yes! Get a bike! My DH and I love ours! It's so much fun! We have hybrids, but now I'm thinking I want a racing bike. We have an old one of those my DH used for his half-trialthlon last year. He had it all fixed up, so it's in great shape now!

Lisa - I learned step when it first came out. Oops! Telling my age again! Anyway, I'm a true believer that you have to learn from an instructor, in a class, face to face. That way, she or he can gauge what you're having trouble with and work longer on it or slower and without arm work! That was the most important thing for me about learning was to keep the arms out until I got the most important part - the feet! There is no way I could have learned starting with Cathe and I'm a fast learner! I have a love/hate relationship with plyo! It make me want to swear out loud, but man, it does amazing things for my legs!

Have fun walking the dogs!

Cindi - Great workout yesterday! I agree too about staying strictly with running here! Could you imagine what our conversations would be like? "How far'd you go?" "5 miles" "What was your pace?" "9.15" "Wow, that's great!"

LOL! We'd get boring really fast!

Nothing new with workouts for me yet. Same 'ole, same 'ole for 1 1/2 more weeks! Only one more plyo workout! Yay! That about killed me this morning! I'm really looking forward to that rest week! I'm thinking I'll take a real rest week, too! No Low Max or IMAX or anything, just some yoga, stretching, abs and puppy walks! I have to do something though or I'll start gaining weight again! We'll see how that plan works out.

Have a beautiful evening everyone!

Hi ladies -

Spin and abs last night
Spin and weights tonight

Lisa - I know what you mean. I get less poufi-ness too when I go high rep/low weights. Maybe I need to investigate BBL!

Tricia - Real rest week - you deserve it!

HI to Alisha, Jane, any lurkers out there. :)

Hi Lisa!

I did not fall face first into that plate lol. I'm doing ok. Its kind of strange but when I tell myself I can eat anything I really want I discover I don't actually want that stuff at all.

Today is 4DS BootCamp. I love that one, its so much fun.

Hi everybody!

Hi Everyone!

No workout today but thought I'd stop by anyway! :)

Tricia ~ I will be sure to give you a full race report on Saturday. I'm looking forward to the race. I think the weather should be nice in the low 60's. I've been thinking about getting a bike for a long time now but with family issues it was hard to fine the time. That is definitely on my list for this year.

I think it's great that you are taking a nice rest week. Puppy walks sound like fun!!

Cindi ~ The last time I rode a bike was about 4 years ago and before that it was about 15 years ago. I'll have to get acclimated to it again...but hey "it's just like riding a bike". LOL!! :p;):p:) There are a couple of great places around here that have duathlons.

Alisha ~ I'm glad you didn't fall face first into your plate! Yay!!! Have fun with boot camp!

Hi Lisa!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Cindi - Good for you! Get that spin on!

Alisha - I took up your face in the plate episode tonight! I was at the grocery store picking up just a couple of things and craving chocolate. Yes, I said chocolate! Well, nothing really appealed to me and I wasn't going to splurge, but ended up getting some trail mix stuff with dried cranberries, almonds and chocolate covered almonds. Well, I opened it on the way home, which is only a few minutes. By the time I got there, I had eaten half the bag already! What was I thinking??? I didn't even really want it! I haven't done that in over a year! Wahhhhhh! Sigh - tomorrow is another day, right?

Jane - Glad you stopped in! No matter if you worked out or not, it's nice to hear from the few of us left posting regardless!

Funny story, depending on whether you were me or my DH -

DH brought home sushi Tuesday night for dinner. Did I already tell you the wasabi story? Oh well, if I did, just skip this part! So, they always give you a huge glob of wasabi and we never eat but a little bit because it only takes a little bit! That stuff is hot! So, DH decided to give a glob to each pup. I told him not to that it would be too much. He didn't think it would phase them. Well, it didn't. They gobbled it right up! Of course, I told him if anything happened, clean up would be on him. Sure enough at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning Peanut got rid of something from one of her two major orifices! LOL! He got up and cleaned up. I wasn't budging! Actually, he got up, stepped in it (ROFLMAO!), THEN cleaned up!

Can I say "I told you so!"

Have a great night everyone! See you tomorrow!

Why do husbands not listen! LOL. :) Great story Tricia.

No weights for me last night, I was too tired. I did have a PT session and she's pushing me pretty hard now with leg presses so I got extra leg work in then. My arms were still sore from Tuesdays weight workout. The spin instructor yesterday was a new one to me - she just wouldn't let up! It was hard.

Good luck tomorrow Jane!

And everyone have a great weekend. I'm doing some cardio/core today - a new DVD I bought (like a need another DVD!). Tomorrow is a rest day - I'm going with Honor the the state middle school orchestra competition. Her orchestra is really good so we are hoping they do well. Sunday I teach sunday school - in honor of Earth Day we are going to be in the kitchen preparing raw dishes (enjoying God's gifts, saving energy by not using the ovens). I love raw food - all we will use is a blender. We are making fruit smoothies, raw oatmeal/granola, and almond cherry cookies. YUMMY!
