Hi all

I know you get asked this all the time but as you're all Cathe experts! I'm planning what I'm going to buy next and this is what's on my list:

SJP/Step Blast
Muscle Max
Gym Style - Chest
Gym Style - Back
Rhythmic Step/Imax/MIC
Power Hour/MIS/Body Max
LIC

I've got Kick Max, Low Max and Imax2/Cardio & Weights and I love them all. I don't have a stability ball or high step so want to avoid any workouts using those. Also, I don't have a barbell but hope to use dumbells instead.

I was thinking of buying 2 or 3. Which would you go for if you were starting from scratch?

I've been on the forums a lot and Muscle Max doesn't seem to get mentioned very much - any particular reason?

I'm just aiming to keep healthy, keep fit and enjoy my workouts.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Ronne. Welcome to the forums. As far as cardio goes, you can't go wrong with either SJP/SB or the Rhythmic Step DVD. Rhythmic Step and Step Blast are Cathe's most complex choreography (RS is the most complex). IMAX and MIC have more athletic choreography and are not difficut to pick up. I think MIC is my most dreaded cardio workout (the hi/lo portion). IMAX is an interval workout like IMAX 2 but I find IMAX to be tougher than IMAX 2. SJP also has a pretty good hi/lo portion although not quite as intense as MIC. It is also a circuit workout like Cardio & Weights. SJP/SB has many premix options which the Rhythmic Step DVD doesn't have. I also really like the music on SJP/SB and Rhythmic Step. I like the Gym Styles much better than the Power Hour DVD. I just like heavy lifting better and the Gym Styles are more to my liking. Power Hour was part of my first Cathe purchase. I only use it very occasionally. The Gym Styles also have premixes which the Power Hour DVD doesn't have. The Power Hour DVD is for endurance. I really like Muscle Max. This is a total body strength DVD and my favorite as far as a total body workout. As you get more advanced, you tend to go more for split style strenth routines rather than total body. None of the DVDs you mentioned uses the high step but the Gym Styles and Muscle Max do use a resistance band. Muscle Max also has premixes which the Power Hour DVD doesn't have. LIC is more of an intermediate/advanced circuit workout alternating cardio and weights. I like the ab work and the strength exercises but the cardio is a little boring for me as I like very complex choreography and I really don't care for the music except for one song. It also uses the resistance band.

After all that, for my final recommendations:

Gym Styles or Muscle Max depending if you want total body or split series.
SJP/SB or RS/MIC/IMAX - do you want another circuit workout or all cardio?

I'm sure you'll enjoy anything you choose. I wouldn't get rid of any of my Cathe DVDs even if I don't use some as much as others. Eventually you'll wind up getting them all. Also, you should check out all the video clips of the workouts to see which of them might interest you.

Good luck and enjoy your workouts.

Hi Marcy

Thanks so much for your reply! It's really helpful. I think I'll go for SJP and Muscle Max for starters and perhaps move on to the Gym Styles for my next purchases. Then I'll feel like I'm moving up!

I was going to get a resistance band as they're pretty cheap and don't take up any room.

Just got to hang on now till I can use my credit card again!

Thanks again!!

I just got muscle max and I really like it! Also, you mentioned you have kickmax so another thought is for you to get KPC/L&G. KPC is awesome, my favorite Cathe workout by far, and you could use L&G instead of GS legs for a while.

Hi Ronne,

You had some good picks up there. I think you will be happy with what you bought.

Have fun,

If I had to say, definitely get LIC. It is a great workout.

I don't have Muscle Max so I can't comment on that one.

I also love the Gym Styles.

Hi Wendy

KPC gets a lot of great reviews, doesn't it? Is this the one with the abs on the stability ball segment? I don't have a stability ball (and no space/money for one either!). Do you think the abs can be done without the stability ball?

Thanks for the recommendations!

I don't have a high step or a barbell either (I just use my regular step that goes to 10", and dumbbells.) I'd suggest:

SJP/Step Blast - great workouts in themselves, and so many great premixes!

Muscle Max - a full body workout that uses 10" step, DBs & BB (but I just use DBs) and a resistance band. I really like this one both for itself and the premixes. Since you don't have many Cathe weight workouts, I'd get this vs. the Gym Styles. You can always add in GS later.

LIC - fab, fab, fab - one of my favorites! And once again, good premixes.

You might also want to consider Body Max 2. This is a really versatile workout. I use the premixes on this one, and Mix & Match, a lot.

I have most of the workouts from the Body Blast series on, and I like they way they are chaptered, and the premixes. I find myself using the premixes more than the regular workouts, or Mix & Matching to make my own workout.

Have fun!

:)

I ordered Muscle Max and SJP/SB. I can't wait!!

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm already drawing up my list for next time!
