New here & Just bought my 1st cathe tape - Cardio Kicks Question

Cathlete
Hi
I am new here and also just bought my 1st Cathe tape..... I have a few questions and not sure this is the place to do it, sorry if its wrong.

I just bought Cardio Kicks and I did preview it before I bought it but yesterday was the 1st time I tried it and I wasn't sure I liked it but I did finish it.... But today I am sore but in a good way, like I used different muscles then I am used to using - a good feeling - and I do think I could of worked out harder but I was feeling a little on the fatigued side to where it was all I could do to even think about jumping.... anyway so I was thinking about getting rid of it..but now I am thinking twice about it.... maybe I should keep it, has anyone else did that where you thought you didn't like it at first ? But maybe the 2nd time was better ?

I think its all the jumping that gets me, I feel like my head is going to rattle off my shoulders, and oh a headache

I am used to working out 5 times a week, I use mostly the Firm workouts but some treadmill interval work too.
Sorry this was so long,
Thank you,
Laura =)

Give it some more time. I think you will really enjoy it after you do it a few times..

Laura,
Give it some more time! The first time through is always difficult as you're trying to learn the moves and your body doesn't know what to expect next. When Cardio Kicks first came out I had problems with it the first couple of times and then by the 3rd time I had my form down better, the kicks got easier and I was able to really get into it. Now it is one of my favorite cross training tapes.

Give it some more time and see how you feel, you may be surprised at how well you adapt to it.:7 :7

Welcome Laura,

Was this your first foray into kickboxing workouts? If so, you started with a whopper of a workout. Kickboxing workouts definitely hit your muscles in ways that other exercise simply can't and that can take some getting used to. Also, since form is so crucial to doing kickboxing safely and effectively, it may take several tries before you feel comfortable with the moves. Cardio Kicks is one tough workout and it seems to be the consensus of those who frequent the forums that people either love it, love it, love it, or can easily pass this one by.

If you are interested in kickboxing workouts, Janis Saffel has some good ones. Powerstrike Millenium 1 and 2 are also quite good.

If you want to try some other Cathe workouts that don't require a step, you may want to consider CTX kickbox (one of my personal faves) or Bootcamp from the Intensity series. If you have a step or are willing to acquire one, the any of her older step workouts are great introductions to her style. Lastly, Cathe has amazing strength training workouts, both endurance style and strength style. Cathe does use a step in most of these as a bench for lying exercises. These can be modified to do on the floor if you put a pillow between your shoulder blades. Also, Muscle Endurance doesn't require a step for the workout. There is some high step work but if you have a Firm Fanny Lifter, a step stool, or something like that you can easily do the step ups.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. Everyone here is just terrific.

Thank you to all that have posted to me, what a great bunch of people you are over here :)

This was my kind of my first kickboxing tape, I hadn't done one in a long long time and the last one was Billy Blanks ( he does nothing for me ). LOL!

I do like step workouts. Just again - the jumping concerns me only because I seem to get a headache easy when doing jumps.

Thank you so much for your help and advice.
Laura =)

I'm one of those that wasn't real fond of Cardio Kicks. I have all of Cathe's other videos and absolutely LOVE them so I was surprised that I felt this way about Cardio Kicks...BUT...it has slowly come to be a favorite for the days I don't do step. I'd love to do step all the time but unfortunately, I know better. So, I say, DON'T get rid of it yet. It may grow on you. I also suggest trying her other cardio and strength videos...you will love them all!

For less choreography, you should go for her earlier step workouts such as, StepFit, PowerMax, or StepMax. I started with these in 1996 or 1997 and I still throw them into my rotations. Good solid step workouts!

As for the headaches, I used to get them in high school from high impact but found out that I was NEVER properly hydrated. If you are properly hydrated then I would suggest just taking out the jumps and power on the steps...very easy to modify.

Good Luck!! Let us know what you pick :)

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum. My kneejerk reaction: Don't get rid of it! It'll grow on you, believe me.:) I'm partial to Cardio Kicks. I neither love it or hate it. I use it on those days when I'm bored and want something different. Variety is very important to me. It keeps me motivated.

This is one of my favorites. I liked it the first time I did it but that is very unusual for me. Usually I can't tell whether I like a workout or not until I do it a couple of times. Also,what surface are you doing CK on? I used to get headaches (and serious back pain) when I did hi-impact on a concrete floor. Now the only time my head hurts when I workout is when my sinuses are bothering me.

Hi Laura
I too have ahrd time w/Cardio kicks or hgh impact I substitute Jumping jacks or or that side to side pony or whatever it is called But these tapes are great once you get them nice variety. I always have a hard time getting used to a new tape ME and power hour sat around along time before I did them a second time but now I love them It was nice to hear the headache could be from not enough water or sinuses I ahve terrible sinus problems and high impact really bugs them I ahve noticed. I too do treadmill every other day just for variety and less impact I ususally do my leg work on these days
Ok good luck
Lisa
