Nervous about not using videos all summer

Ok, I need some reassurance here. My husband, who is extremely fit, has suggested a new rotation for me and I'm almost two weeks into it. I must say that I am really sore (in a good way) and making progress. The only thing that is driving me nuts is I'm not using any videos except for 1/2 hour interval training (i.e. IMAX's). He wants me to do this rotation all summer. I don't know if I can handle it! Maybe I'm just a creature of habit or maybe I'll just miss seeing Cathe and the crew everyday! I actually look forward to the 1/2 hour interval training (always after a grueling leg/ab workout) and am tempted to do the whole hour. Has anyone else ever had video withdrawal or do I need professional help here?

If you need professional help then so do I. I wouldn't like that at all. I have been about 2 months once with no exercise videos and did walking, jogging, and went to the club a lot. My firm decision after that was "this is not for me". Gotta have some Cathe.

Okay Amy here is a suggestion. I've taken on a new work out approach where I'm going slow and heavy at my own pace so I work each muscle to EXHAUSTION. Only problem is I am having slight Cathe withdrawals too, so to remedy this....I pop in the Cathe S&H tape and do my own thing while the music plays in the background and I still feel like I'm part of the group. Make sense???? Then you can do dh's suggested routine with Cathe there to cheer you on and you know what she won't even know that your not doing exactly what she is doing and she will always tell you that your doing a great job. She is so sweet!!! There's always a way to work it (she'll tell ya that too).

Hi Amysue!

Would you mind sharing your rotation? I'm assuming you're taking advantage of the nice weather and I hope it will give me some ideas. I love being outside in the summer and wouldn't feel comfortable staying inside doing workout videos most days (even though I totally love Cathe's workouts). I think most of my working out will be running and kayaking but would appreciate more suggestions.

(For the record, if I didn't work full-time, I would definitely be doing lots of Cathe videos in the summer. I would also do them before work if I could but I currently leave the house at 5:00 a.m. and there is not a shot I could fit in a workout before that.)

Thanks!

Good luck with your rotation,
Shelley :7

Briee..

How is this working for you?? I have thought about ixnaying Cathe for a while in favor of heavier, slower workouts. Somewhere between MIS and S&H seems to be the perfect pace for me where I can feel every muscle fiber "twiching". Anything faster and I most of the time feel I am "going through the motions", you know?? Do tell... I was thinking also of jumping back on the TTR bandwagon, since it is summer here in Phoenix already!! Close to 90 degrees today!!:)

Hi Shelley,
If you really want me to share, I'll post on the rotation forum. But basically it's your basic bodybuilder workouts mixed with sprint work, intervals, longer but slower cardio days (all usually running or I sneak in Cathe intervals) and, of course, we are including climbing even if it's at a gym. We also mountain bike, trail run, and ride our tandem. As the weather permits, we get in some long day hikes and maybe some overnight backpacking. We are actually training to become more functionally fit for our sports.

I do like the idea of playing a tape while doing my own thing! Have to try it!
Thanks for the inputs!
Amy

Last summer when I was training for a triathlon and just doing hit-and-miss weights at the gym, I really missed Cathe. I got so bored with just swimming, biking, and running. I've added back two Cathe videos a week as I'm getting ready for a tri this season and I am so much happier. And I get to use the new videos right away, too.

Hi Amy,

Thanks for posting your rotation. I think it'll be really helpful.

How cool to be able to share such activities with your husband! If my boyfriend weren't so incredibly cool, I'd be jealous. (My boyfriend and I do kayak together and I think one day, we'll be lifting weights together. I recently started lifting weights and want to get a little more proficient before I have the pressure of somebody "watching" me.)

Out of curiosity, do you live in Colorado? You seem to have the Colorado type of active lifestyle that I so greatly admire.

Thanks again,
Shelley
