I get tired of all the candy the boys get so I was trying to figure out some other things to put in their stockings. I always put in an orange and an apple plus they love the chocolate coins so those are a must. What do you put into your kids' Christmas stockings?

i did stickers and these twistable crayons(they look like pens but with crayon wax in them) this year. i don't like the idea of candy anymore. viola really likes stickers. i also got this little mini tech deck character i though she would like. years before i would do candy and maybe an individual matchbox car b/c she used to play with those alot.

i like the chapstick idea. everyplace has the smackers in funky packages.

for my niece and nephew I do art supplies (glue, crayons, markers) packs of undies and small travel games.

Depending on the age, lottery tickets might be good.

We also got socks, undies, mittens/gloves, small toys

Toothbrushes and toothpaste, dental floss, bubblebath, shampoo, lifesavers books (these are a must have!), little stuffed animals peeking out of the top.

Santa always puts socks and underwear in stockings. I wander around Kmart or walmart looking for small things. Flashlights, diposable camera, cheap plastic gum ball machines, blank VCR tapes, notepads, small puzzles, small books. My kids always say their stockings are their favorite part of Christmas presents.

Disposable cameras, stickers, crayons, funky pens, notebooks, lip smackers (is that more of a girl thing?), little handheld games (not necessarily electronic either), a book, a comic book, gloves, little stuffed toys...

When my kids were younger I always had the typical stocking stuffers...matchbox cars, chapstick, toothbrush, candy, watches, wallets, etc. Now that they are older (and Christmas is far less fun) they get money, gift certificates to Starbucks, ABC liquor store, local restaurants, Exxon gas station (they are students and drive home for Christmas), Wal-mart, and our local mall.

My 12 yr old son got: boxers, bionicles (which he loves) the new ones look like spiders, remote controlled mini escalade, deck of cards (we play rummy 500 A LOT), zip up cd case, socks. On him I am not done yet. My daughter just turned 10 and she has: undies, bratz coloring/activity books, flavored chapstick, pot holder kit, knit kit, bubble bath, lotion..................on and on for her, girls are so easy to buy for. My youngest is getting ready to turn 7 and he is autistic, so I have to be picky about what he gets. I make sure it is things he can learn from. He loves the cars that you wind up on the bottom. I found 3 of those at walmart for 3 bucks each. He also likes those spinner things where you press the button and the toy spins and lights up while your holding it. There is a lot I have seen for him , but haven't went and gotten it yet. What about travel games for when they are in the car? Like a mini etch a sketch or maybe an electronic hand held game. I myself have the large tetris and the yahtzee and love them. Just some ideas. Also, every year they each have a gift envelope w/ a card from walmart for 40 bucks hanging from the tree. That is the first thing they look for. :)
Mcdonalds, Burger King and Wendy's all come out w/ these christmas bucks. They are sold in books of $5. They have them out already, I don't know about your state though.

One Christmas I totally forgot about stocking stuffers and I only had 2 small sized gifts to stuff in their stocking other than fruit. Well anyway, it was just too late to go out and get stuff. So instead, I took a strand of Christmas beads and attached it to one of the gifts going in the stocking. I fan folded and twist tied fives, and many 1 dollar bills to the strand and spaced them about 5 inches apart. When the kids pulled out the gift with the strand, the strand kept going and going with one bill after another. Their eyes lit up and they thought they were rich. They were really excited. We put about $25.00 worth in there.

Of course, I had run neighbor to neighbor to get enough bills to carry this off.

Not reading every post I will say my parents put nuts in mine. Usually uncracked. Fruit and candy. Maybe miniature bubble bath?? OR throw in something constructive like crayons or markers.

When we were little, our stocking had a piece of paper at the bottom that we would tear through the stocking stuffers to get to!

The piece of paper was a CLUE. We usually had about 5-8 clues (my poor dad, working on these Christmas Eve AFTER church at 10:30-12am). It was SO COOL. The clues were really inventive and creative and super.

Anyway, we would wind our way around the house, trying to figure out each answer (my sister and I had to take turns, the first one went through the whole thing and then the second one went). At the end of the treasure hunt we would discover either the Best Christmas gift or the gift that was hardest for my parents to wrap. IT WAS SO FUN.

When we got to be about 16-18, my dad put his foot down and stopped doing it. It's been a ittle sad ever since! ;) Of course, he's much more fun Christmas morning, too...

This isn't what you were really asking, but it was SO COOL I wanted to share! :p

We got decks of cards, miniature flashlights (always a big hit in my house, and maglite makes a wonderful mini flashlight), those big candy cane m&m things, Lifesaver books (I agree - a must-have), lip gloss, chocolate coins, nail clippers, beanie babies or other stuffed animals, rubber balls (my bro and I created a game with rubber balls and two Pringles cans - we'd sit across the living room facing each other, and take turns trying to roll the rubber balls into each other's Pringles can. I remember sitting for hours playing that game with him). You could also stuff music CD's or DVD's into a stocking if it's big enough. I also got a set of jacks one year. That would fit into a stocking. I loved those! Toothbrushes and toothpaste (the flavored kind). Hair barrettes, matchbox cars. The more little stuff, the better. It's a never-ending surprise what you'll find at the bottom of the stocking. Hallmark stores sell these little "gemstone" rocks that you could put in, as well.

In addition to all of the above we always got a new xmas ornament that pertained to our interest at the time or one that reflected something special from that year. Also Silly Puddy was always a hit. We got small jigsaw puzzles as well.
