Need some creative ideas on how to GAIN weight

No, not me - my husband. DH has always been slim - runner's build, little fat and lean muscle - but he is at an all-time low weight of 133 pounds (for his 5'11" height, that's slim). He has chronic TMJ, which is a jaw problem and means he can't chew things like red meat, chicken, raw veggies and fruits (except avocado, mango and kiwi), nuts, and most crunchy snacks and breads. His diet staples are fish, eggs, cheese, soup, potatoes, yams, cooked green veggies, and the occasional plate of pasta.

He feels too thin at 133 and his face looks a little drawn. He also lacks energy and is getting more colds than usual. His "natural" weight is somewhere between 140 and 145.

I'm trying to think of things he should eat to put on weight but all I can think of are smoothies...any ideas or advice out there?

Milkshakes! The kind made with calorie-laden ice cream! Those are loaded with calories. McDonalds and all those fast food places have them, and you can make your own.

Honeybunch said exactly what I was going to say. Malts! I had to put on some weight on about 12 years ago and I ate raspberry malts from Culverts (They are my favorite-I love them) and the weight came on very easily.

Have him try some protein shakes. A friend of mine also had trouble gaining weight, but he started eating (drinking) two protein shakes a day with about 30g of protein per shake and he was able to gain. And since he doesn't have to worry about keeping it low-cal, he can add peanut butter, fruits, milk, chocolate syrup,... to make it taste good.

If dairy is a problem, how 'bout nut butters? You can find almond, cashew, etc. in addition to peanut butter.

Avacados are also a good source of healthy fat for weight gain.

The lack of energy and weakened immune system combined with the low weight might be a sign of something more serious going on. Has he been to his doctor for a general check up lately?

I second the protein shakes! IMHO, they are better for you than the milkshakes. I've always heard you should gain weight very carefully - make sure it's 'good' weight and not 'bad' (From greasy fried fatty foods).
Good luck!
