Need remedial posting lessons

I am needing "Posting 101". How do you put the expression icons in the body of a post? And how do you post a reply with only part of a quote instead of the whole thing?

Any other stuff I should know? Any and all suggestions welcome.

TIA

Elsie

When you hit the Quick Reply icon and start typing your message, there's an option to "Go Advanced." That will give you more options when posting, including the smilies. :) They'll be in a group on the right, and you just click the one you want.

Eventually, you'll learn the keyboard shortcuts for various smilies, and then you can just type those in manually in the Quick Reply box instead of going to the "Advanced" box.

To quote only a portion of someone's post, just look between the two quote codes ( [ quote ] and [/ quote ] ) and delete whatever text you don't want. The part of the message that is left is what will show up in the quote.

If you're pulling out text from different spots in someone's post, just type out the quote codes (listed above in red only without the added spaces...I added spaces so the quote codes would actually show up instead of quoting the word "and") and insert whatever text you'd like quoted. Basically, whatever is between the quote codes gets quoted. Like...

Lori is great!

Let me know if that either wasn't clear or didn't answer the right question.

You can also just copy and paste whatever you want to quote. Highlight it after you've pasted it and click the little quote box in the upper right corner. It's the 4th thing from the right.

I'm seeing smilies

Elementary, my dear Watson.

Lori, I followed your instructions and had no 'smilies' on my right. So I checked my settings. Evidently my 'message editor interface' was set on 'basic', so I had no smilies. I'm so happy now!:D I feel like a whole new world has opened up. Now I can be my sarcastic self.;)

Thank you both for your help! Your instructions on replying with quotes really helped.
