There is more similarity between GS and PS. S&H stands in a class of its own due to the extremely slow nature of each rep. Nothing else Cathe has made is quite like it. It does help bust through weight training plateaus. After training with S&H for 6-7 weeks I was then able to lift heavier weights on GS and PUB. I build more muscle mass and definition and strength with the S&H than with any other Cathe workout. I no longer really bother with endurance weight training for the upper body, unless I am coming back to exercise after a break and ned an overall re-introduction to weights. But then, I am tall with long limbs and lean muscles, it is hard for me to build muscle. So, this series is perfect for me.
I rarely do the S&H legs workout. I love endurance for the lower body. I use LL and GS legs all the time. I used to use PS legs a lot and it did wonders for building my lower body strength at the time, when I was new to weight training. But I believe GS legs to be more thorough because it has the floor work with the band in addition to the standing barbell and dumbell work. I know that PS legs has floorwork also, but the floorwork on GS legs is more up-to-date, more thorough and more enjoyable.
I cannot really compare PS upper body trainng to GS upper body training because I have never been inspired to try it! Sorry. I remember viewing it when I bought it and wa surprised that these workouts were labelled "strength" because the count seemes as fast as Cathe's endurance focussed workouts. I think many people believe GS series to be Cathe's PS series of the new millenium. An updated version.
The GS series is extremely thorough and good to look at! It combines different rep speeds that do allow you to lift heavy, but also includes faster reps with the band to fully tweak each muscle group before moving on to the next.
I think that the GS series would be your "staple" strength training set. And use S&H 2 or 3 times a year to take yourself to the next level and work those msucle fibres differently, to shock them.
Pinky knows far more about the PS series than I do. You might try asking her.
