need ideas for the 1RM!

I was wondering how we should go about treating our 1 rep max tests...should we do several at one time, and count it as a weight training day??? I'm just not sure of the best way to go about this, as it is going to be a somewhat time consuming process, and I don't want to sacrifice my other workouts in the process.

TIA for any advice.

Hey Jerry!

Here's my thoughts on this...

I usually do the 1RM tests on cardio or off days. I test smaller muscles first so they won't get fatigued trying to assist larger muscle groups, and always take a 3-5 mins rest in between. I usually go like this: Shoulders, triceps, biceps, chest, back. I'll start doing tests for barbell exercises (chest/legs) once I get the barbell stands.

It is a time consuming process (I would consider it half-a-workout)... but I think you can squeeze in 5 exercises in one day. Also, you can do a bit more if you test single-arm exercises and use each arm for a different exercise.

HTH,

Chris.
