Need help

Cathlete
Hi this is my first post and after listening. to everyone for about a week now I have come to you for help. i need to figure out how to lose those last 5 lbs. i started out at size 22 and now am down to a 4-6. For two years by doing weight watchers and consistenly working out harder and harder i have managed to get from 254lb to 145lbs. the problem is for about 7 months now i am stuck in between this 142-145 thing and the scale won't move. For the past two weeks I have increased my cardio but NOTHING. Let me tell you last week I did 3 thirty min cardio. Power Max, Imax 2, Bootcamp, Muscle Endurance and the All three slow and heavy minus the legs. Oh and also abs for about six of thoses days and High intensity training. I try to eat as clean as possible and do not really follow any one diet now. I just try to eat around five or six meals . Usually around 1500 calories. it is so fustrating to me. I know it probably seems crazy but I just don't have any clue what to do. My goal is 135 and I know the number on the scale should not make a difference but that is just my personal goal. some days I will get on the scale and think I have finally made head way and then a week later it's back in between that range again. this is my first post so I am sorry for the (wordyness)Again thanks to all and I hope to talk or help any of you if I can. Just a few suggestions:

This might not seem like much help, but IMHO a personal goal of dropping 5 pounds of scale weight, as de minimus as the meaning of scale weight is, is destructive to you. From what you've listed, in terms of your exercise schedule and your caloric intake, you're overtraining and undereating. And you're driving yourself nuts in the process.

1. LET THE SCALE GO! The reason it isn't dipping anymore at this late date (and, just in passing, HATS OFF TO YOU FOR WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY ACHIEVED!) is that you've developed some extremely healthy and necessary muscle mass that is going to offset the body fat loss in terms of gross scale weight. And you do not want to lose muscle mass. You need it.

2. You do not need to work abs 6 times a week. Cut it down to 4 times a week and make those sessions INTENSE.

3. 1500 calories is not enough to fuel your body given the schedule you've listed. Increase your caloric intake by at least 300 healthy calories. Your body could be going into starvation mode.

4. You need to relax a bit. Add in another rest day into your weekly program and let your body recover from its high intensity training.

5. See #1.

Welcome and great work with your weight loss!

This may seem like a crazy suggestion, but try taking 7 whole days off from exercising. Keep your calories at 1500, don't have any cheat days or splurges.

When you start again, do 3 45 minute cardio sections a week, plus the weight workouts you were already doing.

Your body may have gotten used to your fitness routine. Doing the above may give your system the shock it needs.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the prompt help. Logically i know i probably should eat more. Thank you for all the reinforcement. Sometimes it is good to get another perspective. I do workout for about at least 90 min 6 days a week but there was a post the other day which it seemed like others were doing the same so that made me feel like that part of this quotion was ok. I love to exercise and mostly do Cathe I am sure it is the eating. Thanks again Karen

HOLY COW!!!!!! From a 22 to a 4-6? I'm doing a happy dance for you!!!!!! You're one determined lady! Great job. Probably those last 5 lbs. are supposed to be there and that's why they're staying. Don't really get too hung up on the what the scale says. If you feel good and look good, it doesn't matter!

Karen ROCKS!!!!! She's the weight-loss diva!!!!!:)

You made my day. Thank you Thank you Thank you. I do feel strong and healthy and can keep up with my three girls(8,6, and 3). I think maybe I did need a kick in the butt from all of you to tell me it doesn't matter. I think what really got me going was the post on the weight and height of the 5'3 person. Well I,m 5'7 and have 20% body fat but weigh mostly 143 like I said between (140-145). Now some post that they weigh like 120 and 130 for this height of 5'7. I know i have a lot of muscle and people have different body make up's. but some times you think How the Hell they get that small!!!!!!thanks again I am so glad I asked. karen

Karenvictoria,

I applaud you for what you've done for yourself. And you know, it probably feels like that last 5-10 lbs is harder than the rest. Hang in there. And when you find out what works for you, please share with the rest of us :7 .

It can be hard to remember that things like frame size, muscle/fat ration, etc, DO make a difference...I can let the same thing frustrate me when I hear about girls that are my height who weigh like 10-15 pounds less than I do...

Have a great work out!

Thank you for all of your kindness. congrats on the baby and a ton of congrats on the cigarettes. My father just stopped after 48 years of smoking. He started at 12 and now he is 60. He has been smoke free since Sept. I know how hard you worked for that. I admire you for that. Karen
