YOu can also use a toothbrush or a dry washcloth to exfoliate lips.I don't think it really matters what kind of balm or moisturizer you use if you don't exfoliate your lips first. Get the dead, dry skin off with a scrub of some sort (I just use St Ive's scrub in the shower every morning) and then whatever you use to add moisture will work!!
Shea butter and coconut oil are good for dry lips, and are non toxic (I'm not sure what's in Aquaphor, but if it's not made for lips, I'd check to see if it's something I'd want to eat, which is basically what you'll be doing with anything you put on your lips).
