Need Help developing a plan for my friend!

Hi all!!

I'm hoping the educated Cathe crowd can help me out.

I have a friend that is desperately trying to lose about 50 lbs. I committed to helping her by developing a cardio/strength routine for her, and assisting her on cleaning up her diet, however I can't find any good sources to help me determine what she should be consuming in terms of calories. I'd like to figure out how to get her going on an eating plan that will encourage weight loss, but not leave her starving. She's 5'10" and weighs 205 lbs. How do I figure out how many calories she should be eating? There are so many websites that offer these calculations, but they all seem to differ and I'm not quite sure which ones are realiable.

TIA!
Nicole

You could try www.hussman.org He does follow a BFL type plan though so I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for. You can find out various calorie ranges though depending on what yur goal is (fat loss only, muscle gain only, both, etc.)

Check out of your local library two books by Covert Baily (a really cool Physiologist). One called "The New Fit or Fat" and second one is "The Fit or Fat Woman." You will get no-nonsense information for your friend and yourself, too! :p

He also has a book called the "The Fit or Fat Target Diet" and another once called "Fit or Fat Target Recipes." I actually bought a book that has all four books. It is called: "The Complete Fit or Fat Book." It will open your eyes. In fact, I recommend that everyone read this book. It is a must if you wish to understand how your body works and how to lose weight, effectively and permanently. Besides, Cover Bailey is funny, too! :7 ;-)

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon

That Covert book is a good one!!!

I know that they say when you are eating for weight loss you should have 100 calories for every 10 pounds of weight. I think if you went with this, it would be a good plan if she was exercising frequently. You can do some quick searching on the net and I am sure you will find it in no time! Good for you in helping your friend! Now, let's just hope she listens and does not waste your time, huh??:):)
