Hi Everyone

I hope you all had a good weekend any as I continue to progress to goal. I need help in another area, I need to cut down on my meat consumption. My idea is to have two vegatrian days to start with cutting out red meat sticking with Chicken, fish, indulging in lamb (no beef)and pork.

What I really need help with is vegatrian recipes will be most welcome as many convenience vegatrian foods here are quite high in fat but please note I don't like beans and pulses at all(so no chick peas and lentils).

Thanks

Hi Babs,

I am the queen of vegetarian recipes ! In fact, there is a very good book available through Amazon UK, the Weightwatchers vegetarian book. When I have a minute this afternoon, I will dig it out, and post the title and author. May I also suggest checking out your local library for Linda MacCartney recipe books, too. Her books are a great source of information. I substitute meat for Quorn in my families meals. I use frozen Quorn pieces, mince, sausages, fillets. We have Quorn curry, Quorn Bolognese, Quorn Chill Con Carne, Quorn Shepherd's pie, Quorn Lasagne. Do you like mushrooms, Babs ? Mushrooms are a great source of veg protein ! Mushroom Stroganoff is yummy ! I use Quorn sausages in sausage casserole, too.

I will post back in a while. Did you have a good weekend, Babs ?
It is getting nippier the weather, isn't it ?

Anna

Hi Babs,

The book is called "Vegetarian Cooking" by Jo Middleditch, price £3.99 - Amazon still sell it.
The recipes are salad, stir-frys, sweet and sour quorn, Spicy Pilaf, Tomato and Aubergine lasagne, Mushroom Risotto Bake, pizza, stuffed and roasted aubergines, potato layer bake to name but a few. Delia Smith has a brand new book coming out for Christmas, it's release date is mid October, and it is a Vegetarian Cookbook.

Would I be able to e-mail some recipes to you, Babs ?

Anna

LAST EDITED ON Oct-07-02 AT 08:26AM (Est)[p]Hi!

This is one of my favorite veg recipe websites: http://www.vegweb.com/food/. They're all vegan, which I know you didn't ask for, but you can easily sub dairy milk & chesses in for the soy stuff if you want. They're also reviewed by "real" people, which can be really helpful. Also, I'd highly recommend Molly Katzen's cookbooks, especially the Moosewood Cookbook. Some of the recipes are a little involved, so I usually only make stuff from there on weekends. The Vegetarian 5-Ingredient Gourmet by Nava Atlas is my favorite for weekdays. You might want to go to a bigger bookstore and browsing for what appeals to you. Barnes & Noble has a huge selection of veg*n cookbooks.

Have fun!
Sarah

Oops, just noticed you're from the UK, so I don't know about the Barnes & Noble thing... I'm sure you have something similar - if not better. :)

Hi Sarah, and Babs

Sarah:
Great veggie website !

Babs:
Forgot to say if you use Textured Vegetable Protein as a meat substitute, go easy on it, as it is not good for the old wind factor (if you know what I mean), Quorn doesn't seem to have the same effect !

Anna :)

Thanks Sarah,

I know Barnes and Noble very well and I often order books from them so that is fine.

Will check the website.

Thanks

Babs
