Need energy snack before evening workout.

What kinds of things do you guys eat for energy before a workout? I've tried the different energy and/or power bars and can't stand them (plus on WW too many points). Most of my classes are at 5:30pm or 6:00pm during the week. So I change clothes at work, stop by the house at about 4:45 and let the dog out to pottie, feed her and then leave at 5:00 or 5:30 to go to the gym. So I don't always have alot of time to fix something to snack on. Sometimes I'll eat a banana or grab a piece of lunch meat. But I need a little variety. I am always so tired after I get home from work and don't have alot of energy. If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Kim

1.Nutz Over Chocolate Luna Bar-4 pts.(eat half?)
2.Fat Free Pudding Snacks -2 pts.
3.Light 'n Fit Smoothie by Dannon-2pts.(you could drink this in the car on the way over to your gym class)
4.Low Carb Bagel-2pts.(or eat half a bagel with 2pts. worth of peanut butter for a total of 3pts.)(This is made by Thomas)
5.2 slices Natures Own Light Whole Wheat Bread with 2pts. worth of peanut butter(3pts. - 2 slice of this bread is only 1pt.)
On top of the peanut butter a very think layer of All Fruit jelly for flavor.
Hope this helps!

I think a smoothie is a great idea. Something portable is a must because you need to eat it and have a little time to digest since working out diverts blood from the digestive tract to the muscles and undigested food in the gut can make you feel horrible during a workout. I love Nutz Over Chocolate Luna bars! I also like yogurt and fruit pre-workout.

I have a piece of fruit and a tiny handful of nuts or sunflower seeds or something like that, or a piece of toast with peanut butter, or a tiny yogurt. One day I mixed applesauce, yogurt and wheat germ. That was something I used to feed my baby and when I tasted it, it was good!!

A few tablespoons of low-fat cottage cheese keeps me going when I'm too hungry to make it to dinner. Or just a half cup of skim milk. It's important not to be doing any serious digesting while you're working out, but if I'm too hungry I lose all my energy, so I need a few bites of something easily digestible.

I need to have a little food in me before I exercise otherwise I begin to shake and lose energy. I have a slice of american cheese or peanut butter crackers, if I work out mid day. There's something about peanut butter for me. I really perform well. I always have peanut butter toast, a glass of milk and a vitamin 2 hours before I exercise. I also seem to get shakey if I have too many carbs during the day. Go figure my body is kind of weird.
